Computer Graphics Stackexchange

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I think this will interest some of you. There's a proposal for a StackExchange site (i.e. Stackoverflow sister) which deals with computer graphics programming. Not just gamedev related, but also including stuff like scientific visualization, visual FX, etc.

The site is in "commitment" phase right now, i.e. it's looking for users who commit to participating in a public beta test of the site. You can join and accelerate the start of the beta (it's about halfway there).

I have pretty high hopes for such a site. The existing gamedev stackexchange is too broad for computer graphics, and as such (similar to other places like this forum) doesn't manage to attract more than maybe a handful of actual computer graphics experts. Since the scope of computer graphics programming in general is quite a bit wider than gamedev graphics, I think a Q&A site like that has great potential to become a great learning resource with many experts involved, and quite some potential for cross-field knowledge exchange.

What do you think about it?

It's definitely an interesting idea. I don't know how well you will be able to garner commitment from experience graphics people though - their time is generally fairly well spoken for already.

I will commit if I can find my stack exchange login.

I bound mine to a google account, never had problems since

I was going to commit but it says they want me to ask/answer at least 10 questions if I do, I know it's kind of a "to get the site going" thing that you don't really have to do (but it's better if the site actually is to take off) but I don't think I can commit that kind of time right now, literally speaking. If it's still in the commitment phase in a month I'll be happy to oblige.

These betas usually take a long time (IIRC the Japanese Language SE has been in beta for two or so years, but that's probably an extreme case), so no pressure tongue.png
