ok someone posted something back down the list a bit, a guy who seems to be in the same boat as me, but he didnt really get an answer.. Basically I''m asking for a tutorial/text/sourcecode on how to get a bunch of triangles from a file into an array...The guy before me was told to go write his own software renderer (?)... well I''ve already done that, ive got a binary face sorting routine going, and a bunch of lighting methods and stuff... BUT HOW do I get something more complicated than a tetrahedron, which was entered vertex by vertex? The files at wotsit.com are cryptic to me, WAY too much info, more than I can absorb at once, let alone use... any ideas? Anyway thanks in advance if you can help me.. Chris

Use any 3DS reader you can lay your hands on. There is a file named 3dsrdr14.zip, which contains a 3DS reader of which the data is easily tapped. Or you can use 3dsmax''s .ASE format, if you use 3dsmax.

DaBit

ASE files are in text format and are very easy to parse. I recommend using these.

I was wondering how to import the 3d files into a program. Now I am a step closer to build a complete 3d world

thx people!
