Using free half life / counter strike model

Do you think that I can use those skins/models that are freely downloadable from the net in my shareware game ??
Is there any restrictions or anything ??

NOPE, you cannot use, because they was free for using in non-profit project... think, someone made a models for free, then give this for free, and someone use this for made money.. O_o

Hmm.. I''m not thinking about riping off someone elses work for my benefit but if I want to make a compentation.. how am I suppose to do that ?
any models have a .txt file, read and you can obtain some advice about it.
