A still more glorious dawn awaits...

Well, I just finished Modern Warfare 2, so I thought I'd post them now instead of lumping them into another journal entry where they'd be buried under the immensity of future announcements.

Modern Warfare 2: A Pseudo-Realistic Rant

Call of Duty kind of annoys me when it comes within 100 meters of the word "realism"- it's fantasy, plain and simple. Sure, there's FN SCAR's and F-15's, but they might as well be ray guns and flying saucers for how they're used. And the geopolitics? More like geo-not...olics. Okay, that last one didn't make sense.

For example: Russia invading the US? What a joke. Russia had a hard time invading a tiny neighbor, much less a significantly more powerful country a thousand miles away (except Alaska, why not beat the shit out of Juneau? They have it coming.).
Sure it's the future, but Russia's not exactly heading to Great Success! right now. They may talk big, but there's enough problems in the Bear to limit their capacity to invade anything not 1) Right next door and 2) Really tiny.

But did I have fun? Hell yeah, but the immersion didn't go very far for me. The gameplay was pretty good, but I'm afraid I just am too used to Halo to really like anything else quite as much. It was neat, but it was annoyingly chaotic. Sure, it's realistic to be hella confused in combat, but dying from guys popping out of everywhere gets old after a while. Infinitely respawning enemies is a pet peeve of mine. I really like being able to methodically clear out a level of every last enemy at my leisure, I don't like being forced to constantly turn around and re-check every corner or to run through and risk getting popped by a guy hiding being some crates. And call me old-school, but I like going along as a one-man death machine rather than as part of a unit of mildly retarded NPC's.

Of course, I have yet to try the multiplayer, which rumor has it will tickle my fancy, so we'll see... Oh, my Xbox Live gamertag is Prinz Eugn, so if you want to play send me a friend request. Put "Gamedev" or something in the message, just so I know you're a good people and not a random 8-year-old. I have a good track record with shooters of all kinds, so you might be cultivating a powerful ally...

Closing Remarks
Well, tomorrow I'm heading back to my apartment to clean it up before my roommate gets back from winter break (I'm staying at my family's house right now). I cut a deal with my mom wherein she helps me clean, and I help her put away the Christmas decorations at our house. With luck, I'll find time to post some pictures and some piktarz (er... screenshots). I'd make our project announcement tonight, but it need some pretty things to go along with it.
