Background: I spent the last while organizing a contest themes page to act as a central repository for our ideas. You can check it out at: http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~rramraj/Gamedev/Themes.htm By tomorrow I expect to have the documentation done on general contest stuff like deadlines ect. Its basically a synopsis of things we've discussed put into one document. I'll also be posting a few other bits of info summarized from our discussion on the next potential contest (check out http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=271155 for the whole story or just http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=271155&PageSize=25&WhichPage=9 for the jist). Thx :)

I'm probably not going to finish the management doc tonight but I do have it planned out. Here are a few things to expect:

- Resource allocation/ Demo submission (how the demos get off your comp and out to the rest of the world
- Contest preamble template (stuff you see on the contest main page along with a few rules ect)
- Copyright issues
- Judging
- Demo themes(more like what makes a theme good ect; not specific themes)
- Contest length discussion
- Limitations
- Target Hardware
- Future Ideas(including asset sharing and the demo hall of fame)

If you have any suggestions, drop me a line at thereisnocowlevel@hotmail.com

I keep checking the thread. Seems like the site is inactive. Or everybody is in school. I had put a link to some sample winamp plugin code. It is great your taking it up.

I'll keep checking back. Busy here too. Planning to take over the world!!!

Hey guys,

Finally got some time on the weekend; the management doc is about 50% done. I'm trying to provide links and templates for a bunch of stuff, so I need a few resources:

For those that have made avis of their demos, what software did you use to do it? Which codec do you recommend?

I need a really good readme file to act as a template for this contest. Primarily, I'm looking for a professional disclaimer (good legal stuff) as well as good formatting. Any suggestions?

Thx,

Good idea :) I'm kinda strapped for time right now though, getting the christmas contest basecode done, but it should definitely go on a to do list.

Paying attention, REALLY!!! NeHe needs to post something on his site to point folks this way. Maybe write an SMTP server to auto-remind him to post something about the contest.

Cant seem to find the time to finish the doc off; will try for tonight. I'll email nehe and see if we can start the winamp contest the comming weekend (I should have the winamp basecode done by then). It will be a pretty short contest if we start now (something like 3 weeks).

I was also thinking of including some of my code with the basecode; stuff like model loading and animation ect. Do you guys think that would be ok (since this is a contest)? This is to compensate for the short length of the contest.

So far the tentitive plans seem to be to have a mini christmas contest during december and a large contest after. The mini contest will probably be a winamp plugin (provided I can finish the basecode in time).

Excellent work ||v||atrix. I think you could probably exclude the animation stuff. It would over complicate things. Doc is looking good. Looks official. Now we need Nehe_Lover or Nehe to see it!

A bit off topic, but ||v||atrix is your name supposed to be Matrix? That's kinda interesting if it is, because my brother has been using M A T R I X since before the movies, lol. I suppose it's a common nick though.

I can see the fnords.

I think ||v||atrix is the word Matrix. But ||v|| precedes it. If |v| means the magnitude of v. What would ||v|| mean? The magnitude of the magnitude of v?

I think it means the determinant of the matrix v. I dunno he would know best, lol!

llvll is a recursively defined operator:
Given a matrix v, the scalar magnitude of the determinant of v is defined in the case where the matrix v is the magnitude determinant of a matrix v, where successive matrices v are defined in this manner.

lol, jk, its an allusion to Reboot ;)
