Liberal and progressive Christian groups say a new computer game in which players must either convert or kill non-Christians is the wrong gift to give this holiday season and that Wal-Mart, a major video game retailer, should yank it off its shelves.
I did a few searchs on this group... I dont see the outrage fron GTA, Hitman, etc etc etc... I just don't understand the hippy mentality, that says remove christmas trees at the whim of a rabbi, allow muslim kids special religion rights in school... but make a game [albeit a terrible game by the looks] and its a outrage... You veer completely off course here.

What the hell are you trying to get at in those last couple lines?

A game that claims to be christian yet requires you to kill them is hypocritical and blasphemous.

It should be pulled, only because it is insane, right-wing propoganda.

I'm getting at what is accepted and what is not.. more people are affected and upset about those type of things, but hippies love them. IMO the hippie/progressive view comes across as anything non-christian . non- american, non-traditional is GREAT, anything else is bad and must be piled up and burned.

I dont get it..

You are aware that the ones requesting that Wal-Mart pulls it off the shelves are Christians, right ?

Speaking of right-wing propaganda as entertainment, this here is the cream of the crop. A cybernetically enhanced G. Gordon Liddy and Sean Hannity are the world's last hope against U.N. ambassador Bin Laden. It's beautiful.

It doesn't require you to kill anyone, you actually get penalized for doing so. Did you even read the article?

WTF?!? So insane, left-wing propoganda is ok? [rolleyes]

Haha, gotta love the page where Usama Bin Laden is called to the stand and Canada, Spain, Germany and France representatives are congratulating themselves. Nice.

What I don't understand is why "hippy" has become such a popular meaningless buzzword. It's become second only to "liberal" in the minds of right-wing ranters.

And the christmas trees were not removed at the whim of a rabbi. The rabbi requested that the they display a menorah as well. The trees were then removed (at the whim of the airport) because they didn't want to deal with the possiblity of requests from still more religions groups and because they were afraid of the possibility of discrimination lawsuits. The rabbi said repeatedly that he didn't want the trees removed and had no intention of suing anybody. Blame lawyers if you insist of being outraged at something.

I think it's too late to rid the world of biology and physics books, but we can still get other left-wing propaganda, such as hybrid cars, gay people, and the ocean! Onward Christian Soldiers!

Given the track record of the left vs the right, yes.

[Note: you asked a stupid question, so I gave a stupid answer. Before people go, "OMG U HYPOCRITE!" I want to note that I do not believe any propoganda is OK.]

I have never read the books and have not played the game but thinking on what I read in the "Features" in the site I did not like it.
1) killing people, modern military weaponry, this does not sounds like Jesus Christ.
2)We should take care with a direct aproach to bibble texts like this. I heard a lot of people reading literaly the The Apocalypse of Saint John, it's wrong, it was wroted in a code, anderstud by the crhistians of that time. Some things had happend, and some things will happend, but not in a literaly way. For example, the 666 is not about barcodes or a chip in your skin (although, I don't like the ideia of a chip in my skin :) ), it was a coded way to talk about a Roman emperor of that time (Nero I think).
It sounds more like right-wing propoganda than a crhistian thing.

The problem here is that people aren't playing enough Starcraft. They're focusing on the hilarious fundamentalist interpretations of the bible instead of Starcraft.

What I'm trying to say is that we should all be playing Starcraft instead of talking about Left Behind because Starcraft is a better RTS. So let's play Starcraft and not worry because Starcraft Starcraft the Starcraft and all Starcraft, which is much Starcraft than Starcraft.

I don't think hippies had anything to do with this so why are you so insistent on attacking them? I shudder to think of the words you would use to attack the NAACP...

You got the story of the Seattle Christmas tree flap completely wrong too. The rabbi didn't ask for the Christmas tree to be removed, he asked for a menorah to be added to the display and the airport responded by taking the tree down and then putting it back up. Blame that one on the airport managers for being dense.

And for a website named "Sound Commentary" it doesn't specifically state what it's upset about. And given that the meeting in question was May 30th and it's now Dec 13, that was a really lame reference to the issue. What came of the affair? Did the school give muslim kids special rights? Somehow I doubt it but it seems to me that linking to that information would have deflated your outrage.

These two examples that you toss out paint you as quite a reactionary. What do they have to do with the LeftBehind article or with hippies?

The smart criticism of the story would be to ask how a group that calls itself "The Campaign to Defend the Constitution" would seek to curtail free speech. That seems like a contradiction doesn't it? I suppose, however, that if you asked that question then people might take a closer look at the Campaign to Defend the Constitution, in which case they would be exposed to the idea that the religious right is a much greater threat to the Consitution than their efforts to prevent this game from being sold at WalMart. And maybe even worse than that, they might be exposed to the ideas of the Christian Alliance for Progress! Oh no! Liberal Jesus!

It's not that outrageous that these groups would ask Wal-Mart not to carrying this game considering that Wal-Mart has a track record of banning books, music and dvd's that it doesn't deem politically correct. In 1996 if refused to carry a Sheryl Crow album, it forced John Mellencamp to change the cover of an album, it wouldn't sell a Nirvana album unless the title of a song was changed. In 2004 Wal-Mart banned Jon Stewart's "America (The Book)". It refused to carry George Carlin's latest book. It refused to carry a documentary on the Iraq War. At the same time, Wal-Mart has no problem selling "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" with the suggestion that it might be true! The Wal-Mart Thought Police.

Wal-Mart is no friend to free speech.

At any rate, I'm not sure what you're upset about anyway, Wal-Mart is refusing to pull the game from it's shelves.

Because some people get most of their "real-world" news-bites from South Park, therefore Cartman blaming everything on the "hippies" has sadly caught on. Since Borat, I have picked up on an increase in "Jew" references as well, mostly as jokes but just wait...

Note to the poster: I'm not necessarily saying that is your case, but I can guarantee that it's part of the reason we keep hearing "goddamn hippies" all the time.

Hilarious! I really like Hannity's eye patch. It makes him look like a young Dr. Strangelove: Deterrence is the art of producing in the mind of the enemy... the FEAR to attack. And so, because of the automated and irrevocable decision-making process which rules out human meddling, the Doomsday machine is terrifying and simple to understand... and completely credible and convincing.

Extending the tangent here, I used to laugh at the French jokes on Married With Children (well, the funny ones, anyway) up until the the U.S went batshit crazy against France sometime in 2002 and I discovered that there's a huge group of people out there who take these stereotypes seriously. They've tarnished these silly jokes for me.

I believe the reason why they want it off the selves is that they believe it teaches incorrect scripture. Maybe they don't believe in the rapture, and are using the killing as an excuse to complain. I don't believe in the rapture either, for that matter, but I'm open-minded enough to listen to people talk about it, and have actaully read some of the Left Behind books.
Or maybe they actually mean what they say, and just don't like the idea of Christian killings. There has been one or two people on this forum even, that said they were afraid of maniac Christians 'cleansing' the world. No point in giving them more excuses to talk about it. ('Hey, this proves the Christians think of rising up' or something stupid like that)

But I don't think the game should be banned. If it's a fun game, I might even get it.

The enemy team includes fictional rock stars and folks with Muslim-sounding names, while the righteous include gospel singers, missionaries, healers and medics. Every character comes with a life story.

When asked about the Arab and Muslim-sounding names, Frichner said the game does not endorse prejudice. But "Muslims are not believers in Jesus Christ" -- and thus can't be on Christ's side in the game.

"That is so obvious," he said.

ROFL

I'm not racist, I just think all muslims all evil. Come on, people, it's obvious!
