Read this amazing preview of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Wow! I mean, WOW!!! The AI they're talking about is AWESOME! Voice acting for every line in the game?!?!?! BIGGER than Morrowind?!?!?! Look at the faces! They're saying real time facial expressions?! Now, let me show you these screenshots: Like I said, excuse me while I change my shorts. This is a true Holy Shit moment.

Mmmm... guacamole. The stuff dreams are made of. [grin]

One thing I don't get - the article says "Players who just watch the NPCs going about their daily lives will often witness townsfolk in unscripted dynamic conversations gossiping about what's going on in the kingdom and what rumors and news is currently hot." How does that reconcile with 'Voice acting for every line in the game'? Unless they either have live voice acting, or some kind of speech synthesis... *boggles*

Wow! I'm really looking forward to spending dozens of hours running around on pointless quests for useless items in such a breathtaking world. (Note: believe it or not, there is no sarcasm intended in the previous sentence.)

LOL.

I'm unimpressed. The last game that I heard that same laundry list of features (especially real-time facial expression) was SCEE Team SoHo's The Getaway, and we all know how that turned out...

Maybe the NPCs can only say a specific collection of (pre-recorded) words and they mix them up to say something related to some context.

Or maybe we are misunderstanding what they meant. Or maybe they wanted us to misundertand it. Or they are lying.

Your BS detector is WRONG DAMMIT!

What exactly are you calling BS about this game?

It would be nice if they could work on the gameplay a bit. I mean Morrowind is basically the same as the original Elder Scrolls: Arena (made in about '93) or Daggerfall if you ignore the pretty graphics. I expect more of the same.

Still, the graphics do look great. I wonder if those bricks are individually modelled, or if they're using something like parallax bump mapping to get the effect.

nice looking! On a £3,000 monster of a machine, that is. The last pic is obviously Photoshopped (the Dude of Fire looks fake). The bloom effect is a bit strong in the first picture. bump mapping galore. Looks very next-gen, pushing the enveloppe further, which is a good thing.
Everything is better with Metal.

I don't see any real time shadows. I'm very dissapointed.
Chess is played by three people. Two people play the game; the third provides moral support for the pawns. The object of the game is to kill your opponent by flinging captured pieces at his head. Since the only piece that can be killed is a pawn, the two armies agree to meet in a pawn-infested area (or even a pawn shop) and kill as many pawns as possible in the crossfire. If the game goes on for an hour, one player may legally attempt to gouge out the other

The bugs have increased 2³ fold, so this time instead of shipping a game world editor to fix up your saves, they're going to open source the code and ship it with a free learning compiler.

And if you look closely at those screenshots, you can see the Microsoft logo kind of watermarked on some of the textures as a new form of subliminable advertising.
