My friends and i have a potato gun, that shoots well over 400 feet. And we like explosives...I want to here some stories about explosions! (not the fishing hut from AnonymousPosterChild) [edited by - Grizwald on January 18, 2003 1:54:57 PM] [edited by - Grizwald on January 23, 2003 9:56:11 PM]

You like es eh? Have you ever made any? Cause if you haven''t, I''m a great source of finding recipies and ingredients.

And what''s wrong with his story? That ruled!

take a pop can and put a fuse in it and then fill it with gas, put it in your potato gun and light the fuse and then shoot it

ive never done this...as it is potentially extremely dangerous, but im sure it would be cool if you didnt get hurt :D

or maybe fill the popcan with some black powder ehehe

Ever try making C4? We did...it failed horribly. However, we were very young and that was the beginning of our senseless destruction.

Well, there''s the standard dry ice bomb. Take about a 2" by 2" chunk of dry ice, put it in a 3 liter bottle (plastic. Glass will kill you.) add a little warm water, cap it tight, throw it. Works especially well to throw down the tunnels under the interstate. Doesn''t do any damage other than to the bottle (stay back, of course), but the shock wave is pretty darn cool.

Fake mortars (for my TV productions class in high school). Take a piece of pipe about 1 1/2" in diameter, 5" tall. Weld on to a flat base of whatever metal you have lying around. Drill a small hole (big enough for a fuse) at the base. Put in 3 tablespoons pyrodex, then lightly fill the rest with wood ash to about an inch from the top. Throw in a few small pieces of gravel for effect. DO NOT pack it down or you''ll wind up with a 6'' column of flame which could hurt somebody. Light off with an estes rocket launcher electric fuse, or a dynamite fuse. Lovely effect. Not too dangerous provided you don''t stand on it.

My dad has a small (about 2 feet long), fully functional cannon. It will shoot about 50 feet with 3 tablespoons of pyrodex.

Match rockets:
Take a wooden match (yes, it must be wooden), lay a sewing pin down alongside the shaft of the match, point to the head of the match. Take a small square of tinfoil, about an inch by an inch, cover the match head, making a tight seal. Carefully extract the sewing pin, leaving a small exhaust pipe down the shaft of the match. Prop the match rocket up on something, exhaust port down. Light another match. Put it under the match rocket. The match rocket will light off and shoot for an impressive distance, for such a small thing, but it isn''t all that dangerous because it will burn out in flight, and it won''t really hurt much if it hits someone unless it hits them in the eye or something (that doesn''t mean you should shoot it at people, please don''t.) For extra oomph, add more match heads or some pyrodex to the area you cover with tinfoil.

i can''t get enough of this stuff :D I love your mini match rockets fel.

what are some ingrediants for gunpowder type substances (safish to make (won''t kill, possibly main is acceptable)

i took an estes rocket, and peeled off the cardboard and ground the sucker up. Boy those are cool...we drilled into the frozen dirt (1/4 inch wide) and poored nothing but estes rocket powder into it, then set it off remotely with a coffee can of action figures...melt man from action league now!

My chemistry teacher in high school showed me this (really simple, anyone could think it up, but I have to give him credit anyway). It''s relatively safe, but if you somehow injure yourself, don''t blame me .

Find a meter or a little more of hollow tube (rubber or plastic are fine). Take an empty paint can and drill a hole in the side the size of the tube (you can use glue or something to seal the tube to the paint can). Break the top off of a plastic spoon (or something similar) and glue it to the bottom of the paint can. Make sure the end of the tube is pointed at the spoon.

When you''re ready to actually set it off, find a candle and a powdered substance (sugar is good). Pour the powdered substance into the spoon. Light the candle and put it in the paint can. Seal the top of the paint can. Stand back (don''t put anything over the top of the paint can) and blow hard on the tube.

The sugar will disperse rapidly, and the candle should ignite it, causing a nice flaming explosion that flings the top of the paint can off at a pretty nice speed. We did this indoor in chemistry, the ceiling took survived the hit, but I wouldn''t advise repeating this indoors.

If you just want to see the explosion, find a hard tube and aim it at a pile of sugar with a candle on the other side. Same idea there. Try not to light anything on fire.

When we were kids, we did this:
Take a big nail (about 8-10 CM long, 3-5 MM in diameter), and, with a rock or hammer, ''implant'' it in the asphalt(sp?) for 2-4 CM. Now, take it off, and in that hole put the head of about 5-20 matches heads (not the wood).
Then put the nail back into that hole, and hit it again with the hammer/rock.
CAUTION: Do NOT look at the nail while hitting it, it is possible for small pieces of asphalt to go in your eyes. Some pices might land in your hands, but they won''t hurt.

Some guys I knew built a big-ass draino bomb and put it under the back wheel of an F-250. When it went off the truck''s rear end got lifted like 3 feet in the air and dropped again. Needless to say, they ran like hell.

If you want something big, try one of these:
1) (Fight Club style Nitro Glycerin) Boil fat (cooking fat a should work) and stir until something rises to the surface. Refridgerate this and the stuff on the surface will harden into Glycerin. Then, add nitric acid... carefuly.

2) Buy some ammonium fertilizer. Dump this inside someones shed and soak a cotton-bud in diesel. Then, light the cottonbud (while standing away from the pile) and it should bang.

Or you could try the chlorine and brake fluid, or calcium and water, or carbon+sulphur+potassium nitrate.

Have fun!

... or you could just buy glycerin at the grocery store if you''re lazy, it''s used to make heavy whole wheat breads rise properly.

Though I''d really suggest you not try to make nitroglycerin. It''s highly unstable and you''ll get your fool self killed.

There''s a difference between making cool explosions, and being suicidal.

It is unstable, but stored proporly shouldn''t explode. Just put it somewhere where it won''t move a lot and somewhere where the temperature won''t change more than 5degrees. Say... a vacuum flask.

If you store it for two weeks, you''ll have a nice array of Glycerol Crystals that can be fun underneath chair legs...

And they sell glycerin at stores?

Take some of those firework spinning "flowers" or whatever that look like small cylinders, tape them over with electrical tape (including the fuse hole) and fire one out of a .75" or 1" compressed air gun... instant aerial explosion. You''ll hafta be clever orienting the fuse so that the fuse hole is mostly sealed.

Unfortunately they often rip through the tape too easily and there is the usual effect rather than an explosion (but in mid-air, it''s still pretty cool)

The problem with other things like soda cans/bottles is that they don''t fit nicely into the standard PVC/ABS pipes, so you have to pad them a lot to get a seal...

In fact, I haven''t found a good mass-manufactured container to use in any of my barrels... if anyone knows any good 1.5/2/3 inch diameter objects to use, I wanna know...

You are ALL "enemy combatants" for sure!

Dont you know Ashcroft Online is watching you?

Anyway here is a neat one. Not explosive, just makes a really pretty blue glow and lots of noise.

Ingredients:
Two Rectangular Dry Ice Blocks
One Stick of Magnesium

Instructions:
1) Etch out a line in one of the ice blocks just big enough that the stick of magnesium will fit snugly in it. Make the line too wide and it wont work right.
2) Place the 2nd block on top of the first block. If step 1 is done right, you will have a tight seal.
3) Light the magnesium. If the seal is tight enough it slows the burning of the magnesium. The blocks will take on a strange blue glow.

Small spray bottle + 99% Isopropyl alcohol + random source of fire.
Don''t burn the garage down. And think twice before switching up the alcohol with gasoline, odds are good it''ll dissolve the plastic bottle or at least make it mushy. Oh, and don''t put the bottle back in the bathroom. You don''t want someone spraying alcohol on their hair and in their eyes thinking it''s water.

Along the same lines as the match-rocket (which I must shorty make a mid-night runs to Meijer''s for), is something I stumbled onto will sitting on the can, with a lighter and an empty can of coke. Butane is twice as dense as air, so hold-down the lighter switch and fill-up the empty can. Quickly place it a counter top with the hole sticking off the edge, and strike the lighter to ignite it. Then try to conceal the loss of hair on your hand and scrub the soot off the counter. Hopefully it won''t hit any light-fixturings, so you won''t have to clean-up any glass or replace bulbs. Using a picnic table might be a better idea.

this thread is too cool

I''ve done the napalm (no soap though) we made it like a clay consistency and shot mixed strike anywhere matched with it, put it in the tater gun (in a potato) and fired at a stone wall....rain of fire:D
I love me and you love you.
