Interesting survey about the differences between Bush and Kerry supporters.

Possibly biased Interesting read nonetheless. I'm curious as to who could be so dumb as to not realize what each candidate's stands are on these issues. You'd literally have to be dead to not know if you're a U.S. citizen. My god.

Doesn't surprise me. Having heard the crap that Bush has been allowed to get away with spouting over Iraq, it's pretty clear there's very little critical analysis of facts in the US media. Given your leaders can say whatever they like without ever being called to account, it's not that surprising that nobody understands what they stand for.

yep, and people are falling all over themselves to get him re-elected to make sure that gays can't legally be married.

I know it sounds rediculous, but there are SO MANY people out there that want to elect bush purely because of his christian beliefs...

Basically people are saying "to hell with the rest of the world, gays aren't going to marry on my watch".

And isn't that their right?

Something I noticed is that everybody assumed both candidates supported the same things, and they assumed their candidate felt the same way they did. This could mean that the Kerry supporters were no more knowedgeable than the Bush supporters were, they just happened to be right. Given the number of people that appear to be voting for Kerry just to get rid of Bush, I wouldn't find this surprising.

METHODOLOGY

The poll was fielded by Knowledge Networks, a polling, social science, and market research firm in Menlo Park, California, with a randomly selected sample of its large-scale nationwide research panel. This panel is itself randomly selected from the national population of households having telephones and subsequently provided internet access for the completion of surveys (and thus is not limited to those who already have internet access). The distribution of the sample in the web-enabled panel closely tracks the distribution of United States Census counts for the US population on age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, geographical region, employment status, income, education, etc. The panel is recruited using stratified random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone sampling. RDD provides a non-zero probability of selection for every US household having a telephone. Households that agree to participate in the panel are provided with free Web access and an Internet appliance, which uses a telephone line to connect to the Internet and uses the television as a monitor. In return, panel members participate in surveys three to four times a month. Survey responses are confidential, with identifying information never revealed without respondent approval. When a survey is fielded to a panel member, he or she receives an e-mail indicating that the survey is available for completion. Surveys are self-administered.

So, it requires A) that you have a land-line telephone, B) that you have a television, and C) that you can figure out how to use their iNet appliance. Not too bad, A and B are almost ubiquitous, but it is still limiting the sample quite a bit, especially with C.

But if it isn't ... holy crap. [grin]
Odd, since we all know Kerry is a flip flopper and therefore his position changes all the time ... *cough*

That attitude really bugs me. I am a christian and I believe that homosexuality is wrong, but if God wanted to force us to do right he wouldn't have given us free will. Law should be about people's rights and making society better for everyone, not supporting any single group's beliefs.

I don't like the attitude that all Christians have to vote for Bush because of their faith; look at the two parties and ask yourself "Would Jeses want welfare for the poor or a bigger army?" I think it's pretty obvious.

I believe he was agreeing with aegrimonia... Could be wrong, though. Correct me if so, nagromo.

Hmm, you're right. Tough to read. Sorry if I was wrong; aegrimonia's attitude tends to bug me too (being a Christian) and that may have coloured my reading. [smile]

Notice how Bush supports all the things that could potentially dammage or destroy the world ?

Not really. Going down the line I probably support about 5 or 6 of Kerry's policies more than Bush's.

Participation in and support of the Internation Criminal Court is an absurd and miserable idea.

Participation in the Kyoto environmental treaty is as well.

..

As Etnu correctly pointed out, the survey is likely biased because it just uses blanket "support", "opposes" without giving explanation. Labor standards and the Kyoto environmental treaty would be more palatable to Americans with some changes... Bush represents making those changes.

What should bug you is the way Bush panders to the Christian populace.

Well, you're right. [smile] I mean, that's what politicians do. They pander to large groups of voters. I'm not annoyed that politicians lie; I'm annoyed by the voters that get suckered by it. [razz]

But doesn't it bother you that Bush essentially uses their beliefs for his own political gain?

It bothers me that all politicians do that. I don't see what's so specific about my being a Christian though.

I genuinely believe that these are Bush's real beliefs as well, though. So, it doesn't bother me that he uses his *own* beliefs for political gain. That's kinda the way I think it should work, actually. And so, if I don't share those beliefs than I don't vote for Bush.
