...is annoying. I don't really get the need for &#106avascript to open a fresh pop-up there. Annoyingly when I use 'open in new tab' in Opera and/or Firefox I just get an empty tab. If you're on dial-up (as I sometimes am) it's much easier to open all image links in new tabs and let them load in the background, rather than the annoying flicking backwards and forwards. Probably no-one else other than me cares though.

I agree. If it was done with simple html (target="_blank") it would work the same, but work with tabbed browsers too (or at least I assume that's how it's normally done - most links that open new windows will work with tabs).

I agree, I just don't care enough to talk to Michalson about it. Especially since the new window doesn't have significant GDNet branding or anything, I wonder why we bothered. So, yeah, you have assistance "on the inside," and we'll see what comes of it.

Just hope I don't forget.

As you can see Here, I agree. Personally, though, I don't think it should open in a new window at all. As far as I'm aware, every browser has a way to open a standard link in a new window or tab, but few have a way to open a popup in the same window.
I have all popups blocked (because otherwise some will get around the blocker), and it's really annoying to have to hold control to see the images. Also, I sometimes want multiple images open at the same time but it is very difficult to do that when the link opens a named window.
