Virginia Tech university campus massacre: at least 29 killed

The BBC article is reporting 22, and that was the figure used on the evening news; anyone know which is more accurate?

This is a terrible event, whatever the toll.

EDIT: But another 'in pictures' article also says that they could only be given a 'ballpark' figure so perhaps that explains it.

This is really terrible. My heart goes out to the families and friends of the people hurt or killed.

My homepage is set to CNN and this is the first thing I saw this morning. They're reporting at least 21 dead at the time of this post. It's the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history. Considering that I live on a college campus, this really freaks me out. I'm literally shaking from being so upset [sad]

21 is bad enough. What's wrong with people? I'm glad they took the guy down. Though I wish they caught him alive, shot him 21+ times (in non-fatal areas of course) and tortured him until his arraignment.

Don't worry I still believe in the judicial system.

So horrible. I simply don't know what to say about it.

I had seen that while flipping through channels, but it was the usual lacking in details CNN report. Hopefully clear details will be released in a day or two.

Yahoo says 31 dead now.

This is heartbreaking. My thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to everyone involved.

Police chief reports 22 dead.
CNN reports 21 dead.
The Associated Press reports 31 dead.
Area hospitals have reported 29 wounded.

Fox says 32 now...

AP says 31 dead, including the shooter. I thought they arrested someone earlier in the day, but apparently not.

CNN says 32 now.

Its rediculous really. If you're that disturbed get help, or by all means, go ahead and off yourself, but don't take innocent people with you. Those poor kids have barely started living life.

These cowards don't even stay around to live with the consequences of their actions. I was just skimming a thread in the lounge about whether or not I believe in God. The answer is no, but I still like to think there's a special pit in hell for this guy.

One person committed these atrocities? This is possibly the worst massacre in modern day American history. Absolutely despairing. I am speechless. What a cunt.
