Bjarne Stroustrup on C++ 0x

The Computer Science Club of the University of Waterloo is featuring a 1-hour long exclusive video of Bjarne Stroustrup talking about the upcoming C++ Standard.

Quote:
Abstract:
A good programming language is far more than a simple collection of features. My ideal is to provide a set of facilities that smoothly work together to support design and programming styles of a generality beyond my imagination. Here, I briefly outline rules of thumb (guidelines, principles) that are being applied in the design of C++0x. Then, I present the state of the standards process (we are aiming for C++09) and give examples of a few of the proposals such as concepts, generalized initialization, being considered in the ISO C++ standards committee. Since there are far more proposals than could be presented in an hour, I'll take questions.

For more information, please visit the website of the CS Club University of Waterloo.

The video can be downloaded in the following formats: XviD, Ogg/Theora, MP4, MPG.

Very worthwhile hour to spend, I think. There isn't a whole lot here that can't be found on the web, but Stroustrup gives a nice, focused presentation.

I found his commentary on the various different compilers common at the moment quite interesting. Even though he trashed MSVC's attempts to subvert users to non-standard C++, he has great respect for the compiler itself - a big changes from the days of VC6

My, the last time I remember Bjarne giving a video interview must've been like 3 yrs. ago.

Finally got around to watching this. This video is not interview. Don't know where I got that idea idea.

I do second the "focused presentation" notion.
