An example of spoiler tags. I thought this was clever and wondered if something like this could be implemented here. You'll have to scroll down a little to see the spoiler button at work. Also I would have liked a button that allows you to rehide the spoiler as well.

cute. An easy one to implement might be

forum code tags that changes the text they encapsulate to the background color of the table cell holding the forum post. This would of course be on Richard

I enjoy spoiler tags as well, but I prefer the method that rpgamer.com uses (scroll down a bit and look for grey boxes). Generally, I don't even look in game-specific threads, but sometimes spoilers creep into unassuming topics. It's too bad that many people do not use spoiler tags when they are available, however.

Edit: I should have read your post, Gaiiden. You described the method that I showed.

I rather like the way it's done on IMDb.

A workaround you can potentially use in the meantime or if this isn't implemented is to abuse the source tags a bit, like so:

Scroll down for spoiler...Scroll down for spoiler...This is a spoiler. Oh no, I've ruined it for you!

Given the size of the source boxes it's quite inelegent and not really worth it unless you've got a particularly large spoiler though.

I'm rather fond of the system used by another forum that I frequent, which is essentially the same as that linked-to by anothrguitarist, but using black as the "covering colour", which sometimes leaves the feel of censored government documents.

I don't know how often spoilers are called for here (I haven't encountered them very often myself, that I recall, but then I probably don't read many posts in the parts of the forum that are likely to gather spoilers), but if such things do turn up reasonably frequently then spoiler tags could be a nice addition to the forum's tag set, I think. ^_^

That's a nice idea, JB. When I have spoilers, I'll be sure to use your method, until the
tag gets implemented*.

*That is, if the tag is implemented.

While I created a ticket for them in JIRA, our issue tracking system, so at least we won't forget
