Team name:
Rigs of Rods Team - Open Source GPLv3 project
Project name:
Rigs of Rods (rigsofrods.com)
Brief description:
Rigs of Rods exists since 2006 and is a free-roaming physics sandbox that tries to approach the problem of physics in games from a different direction.
It can already simulate cars/trucks/cranes/airplanes/boats, and all these inside a cohesive framework. If a designer designs something that "looks" like a car, it'll behave like a car.
There is no programmer/god specifying how a car should behave in a "macro" fashion. All simulation is done on the "micro" level, simulating the interaction of "matter particles"/nodes. From this micro-simulation, macro behavior arises.
Target aim:
Quality Open Source Physics Simulation. We do not plan to commercialize the project in any way currently.
We plan to integrate a MMO-style online player mode and mission scripting to give the game a goal.
Compensation:
As open source freeware project we already struggle to pay off the servers running costs, so there is not much room for payed work in the professional manner.
Technology:
Project is mostly written in c++.
We are using Ogre (http://ogre3d.org) for 3D graphics, OpenAL-soft for 3D sound, Angelscript and lua for scripting, SocketW for out networking protocol and wxWidgets for our Tools.
Our project is strictly cross-platform with the currently supported platforms: windows, linux and macos.
Our project has a lot of highly fitted details into it, like the ground friction system that is at least on eye-sight with any other game, or the very fast collision system which is very unique since it has to handle lots of moving objects.
Talent needed:
The project open sourced on Janurary 2009, and since then we are continously growing in all terms. We are basically searching:
- c/c++ coders that have fun with:
-- low level physics algorithms (very gracile things going on there) ;)
-- coding graphics for the 3d engine to interact with the user: GUI's, 3d effects, etc
- artists that enjoy:
-- seeing their models moved by a state-of-the-art physics simulation
-- beautifying the game in general, since we are always having too less artists: GUI's, websites, user guides, etc
Team structure:
we currently have:
- 17385 community members playing and modding the game
- 3 active main developers (to which i count myself)
- 56 invited members (core modder community that know what they are doing)

Previous Work by Team:
We are working on this project since 2006, and its still living and kicking :)
Beside that we have a very fluctuating team where everyone has their own experience profile.
We as a team only concentrate on RoR and not other projects, thus i have to say 'none' here.
Additional Info:
Our Sandbox offers lots of players/modders a platform where they can enjoy hundreds of mods and create their own. Its amazing with what people come up all the time. For example we have: rockets, trains, submarines, a ferris wheel, ... not to count in the lots of planes, boats, tractors, crawlers, big trucks, lots of big cranes, etc.
We offer the gamers and modders a platform where they can build things only limited by their imagination, and if they hit a limit the coders jump to action ;)
So if you enjoy working on a trucks/car/boat/whatever simulator within a friendly team and good community background, simply contact me :)

Expected Compensation: we cannot pay out compensation due to the nature of the project

FQA's that came up:
Q: what level of coding skill is expected?
A: it depends on what you want to work on, for the physics core you should be proficient in c/c++, whereas as GUI developer you just write the code to move around some controls.
What needs to be done?
please have a look here
