the only cheats that are bad are onlinecheats, because they ruin the fun of others

say no to crack, hack, and mod cheats!

No matter how easy you make a game, there will always be someone out there that is just baffled by it. That''s why there are cheats. Nothing ruins the fun factor of a game more than being unable to continue. If it weren''t for cheats in Jedi Knight, I would never have been able to get through the lightsabre battles, which I thought were totally un-fun. I loved the rest of the game and played it without cheating, but when it came to the Mortal-Kombat-style lightsabre sequences, I just didn''t want to bother with it.

If there are no cheat codes then people will make them. Most programmers don''t like the idea of their games being reverse-engineered and cracked by some basement hacker, so they leave in cheats. In multiplayer modes, if there are already cheats, they can be managed better (e.g. turned on or off by the host at game start) while crack-type cheats can''t be managed at all and can have much more devastating effects on game balance.

Most games will be cracked anyway, however. Just for somebody''s entertainment.

Other people do... and that really sucks in multiplayer mode... doesnt matter what game it is.. they''re cheating and they dont have the right to do so...

Online cheats ruin competition.I like it when games do not allow cheats in multiplayer games.
It is really meaningless to use cheats in multiplayer mode. Can you imagine all the participants using the "God" mode?
Or worse ,where only one plays with cheats?

No competition at all!

Here these words vilifiers and pretenders, please let me die in solitude...
Cheats are there for debugging and for fun. Easter eggs are there for pure fun. Computer games run much deeper than console games, which is why they simply have more cheats and such. It you want the truth of it all.. it''s for the coders who CAN''T play the games they''re making. Stupid, eh? But it''s a fact of life. LOL.
As far as multiplayer cheats.. bad idea. Unless all people get the cheat.. god mode would be useless.

I liked Goldeneye/perfect Dark''s method of cheating. You opened them up depending on what you''ve beaten in the game. This is a better way to make the cheats avalible.. i think. But it also hits a point to which you CAN''T do any better without the cheats turned on. I think you should be allowed to advance and open new levels under a cheat only type of game.. but not have any recorded high score, etc. Basically, like in Goldeneye and Perfect dark, how you can have multiple names and such on them.. have one that you can create for a cheats-only game. That way you can play and see how the computer operates without ever actually playing for real. This way people like me who don''t have reactions can plan ahead to respond to things.
I HATE playing a level over again simply because there was a surprise at the end that totally decimated me. I wasn''t prepared for it.. and died for it. Now i have to play it all again, and do it all over.. for what? the last 20 seconds of the level!!! that''s when i put a game down or cheat it. Who here finds it fun to play 3 hours worth of game over again because of the last 20 seconds? Is this RIGHT?
It''s another game design issue.. where the player is not considered. There''s no way to save mid-way in most games. Like gauntlet legends.. you can''t just save before the last part of the board. And some of those boards are complex as hell.. and they''re frustrating to play over and over again because you can''t beat the last horde of enemies before the teleport! This kind of game design makes me sad.
I like to know how the AI acts, i like to see how they move, and how perfect they are.. how unreal they are. If they''re allowed to be unreal, why can''t we?!

I like cheats for single player games... there are a different variety of cheats that could be added to a game other then just god mode. For example I was playing Diablo 2 on single player mode (someone sent me a cd) and getting 1 skill credit, for me, takes away some of the fun because I want to see what all the skills do and see how each progresses as I go along. I''d like to mess around with all the skills in that game without having to get a char to level 30 before I could even see some of the skills. There are times when ''god mode'' is fun, some games I like to jump in a pit full of creatures and slaughter ''em all... then again I just might be a sadist =)
