another good place to get good sprites is
http://gaminggroundzero.com/home.html
then go to files then on the Quick Type scroll bar go to char sets but they do come as sprite sheets they still work though (you might need to change some of them to .bmp as they start PNG

Tales of the SPRITE JEDI:
Q: "SONIC SPRITES,NO SPRITE SHEETS!"
A: "why dont you just take the sprite sheet and cut it into pieces in MS Paint ?"
Q: "IT HAS TO BE EXACT,AND I ALWAYS MESS UP SEPERATING SPRITES!POST PRE-SEPERATES SPRITES!"
A: "[...]learn how to cut sprites out of the sprite-sheets. i really dont see the problem here. you dont expect someone to do the work for you, do you?"
Q: "get one,and do it for me!"
lol, now this is already a sig :)
sprite sheets are teh evil... ms paint is a far too complex program. you cant expect someone to understand how one can cut a big picture into little pieces using it.

Here's my contribution, the game maker resource packs has some decent quality sprites/sound effects/music and backgrounds. There's bound to be something in one of them you can use. The page also links to a few other sprite sites.

ok just to help you out PAINT isnt that compilicated Just open it then open the image use the Square dashed button and select the pice of the image if the whole image height can be evenly divided by the section of image that you choose and the width of the whole image can be divided by the width of the image you choose then your good to go and you can just implement the loading of diffrent images as X*X tiles

Hey, Tiffany. Sorry to go off topic but do you think you can give me the link to your ASCIIRI source? Haha, I doubt if you remember but last year you tried to explain to me the 'dirty rectangles' method and I think I can fully understand it now (one year later).
I'm beginning to think I should have PMed you this...And now I'm wasting even more time typing all this when I could have put it in a PM. :(

No problem... if I post it here in the forums maybe somebody else can get some use out of it also.

Whoah... that's... cool... [grin] Meh, who needs fancy pixel shaders when you can add all the subtle lighting effects with a few well-chosen ASCII characters.
