Problem with backup files

Hello GDNet people, I have a problem and I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. Last night I had to format my HDDs, but luckily I managed to save my important files which are mostly school projects. Now I am done installing my OS, setting up my drivers and my internet connection, I wanted to get my precious files back. I plugged in my external hard drive, moved my folders in place, everything is great so far, right? I discovered that everything is not great, some is. Some of my files, to be exact, my 3D Studio Max files and my After Effects files open as blank projects. Other files, such as Photoshop files, .avi, .mp3 files work well. All of the files, even the not working ones have logical file sizes, they are surely not empty projects. Here's how it is set up: The mentioned folder was in drive E: before I formatted. Now it's in drive D:. Weirdest thing is when I moved my 3d Studio Max files to drive C:, they worked, then I moved them back to drive D: and again, they open as blank project files. I would appreciate, ideas on why this happened or/and how to solve it. Thank you.
