Hi, I downloaded the dxsdk_dec2004.exe yesterday. Microsoft has the download at 221 megs. Now back in 2004 I downloaded the same sdk, which is now on a broken hard drive and I didn't back it to a cd which I should have. I'm going from memory, but I remember that the download never made it to 221 and stopped around 206 as mine did yesterday. This is the sdk that works with Vb.Net that is why I downloaded that update. I'm using vb.net 2003. Back then I had Windows Me and I'm not certain if I had the same problem and had to do something and then the install worked, just not sure. Now I have Xp Pro SP2.When I get a download that is corrupted I get a messagebox that says the file is corrupted. When I went to install the sdk I got a "/.../dxsdk_dec2004/is not a valid Win32 application",so something is up here and I downloaded via phone modem taking just over 13 hours so I don't want to delete the file, download it again, have it stop at 206 megs and be right at the same spot I am now. If someone has had this same issue, please let me know. Thanks Steve [Edited by - Steve5050 on February 20, 2008 6:18:53 PM]

Sounds like it's just a bad download. Why not go to a library or something and download it from there? Or buy a book that has an older SDK on the CD?
Yeah, sound like a bad download (IE suck when downloading slow, sometime it cancel the file halfway).

Anyway... 221megs take me like 5mins to download, what's the problem? And why do you want the 2004 version? November 2007 version is online there :

Because he's on dialup. And because he needs a version that works with VB.
Well,
I asked for help from people that have had the same problem.

Please anybody!

Who has the same problem!

Everyone else who's ever downloaded a file that turns out to be corrupt?
EDIT: To answer your question, Yes, I've had this problem before when downloading a large file on Dial-up. In fact, I seem to recall it was a DirectX SDK.
I suggest going to a buddies' house and using their net access if they have broadband, or just find another place where you can download at broadband speeds. This way you can easily obtain the latest release of the DirectX SDK (which is usually a good way to go, the SDK from 2004 is old and doens't have nearly the amount of advancements/improvements that the current SDK does). I also believe Microsoft will mail you a DVD of the SDK at a small price, if you're willing to put convienence before cost.
I have to use dec 2004 update because after that
they dropped vb.net, which is what I am using.

As for mailing a cd,I asked microsoft a few years
ago to mail a cd and they said that since they have
so many different versions they don't do it.
I'll ask again maybe they've changed,but I doubt it.
Turns out it was a bad download.

I went to freedownloadmanager.org and used that to download the sdk,I did it over a four day period and it worked perfectly and it didn't cost anything.

I also learned that the last update to the DX 9.0 core library was in the Dec 2004 sdk update, all the updates after that have just been to the helper libraries.

Steve
I used to have dialup and steve is very correct. When I first got my PC I was on dialup a while and believe it or not I did numerous downloading on it. It actually took me 30days to get a file once so I feel for ya man.

Also Ive had multiple files corrupted on dial up from downloading. If your on dialup and downloading do it when you have nothing else running and dont even do so much as browse pages when your downloading - do the downloads while you are asleep.

Whats really annoying though is I used to be with AOL and they would cut me of every 30 mins and that was supposed to be on their unlimited package, I would phone them up going nuts and they would fix it then 2 weeks later it would be back to 30 min or 45min cutoffs. By this time I was sick of dialup and got boroadband, If/When you can afford it get broadband , even 512 broadband will do you and its very cheap now.
