I am really loving the new windows media 8 codecs (half the size of mp3 for the same quality). Does anyone know of any engines that can handle playing windows media files back?

Have a look in the Platform SDK under Multimedia/Windows Media. The Whistler Beta 1 Platform SDK only have Windows Media 7 stuff, but version 8 is still in beta I think, so you''ll have to wait for that.

Here''s a link to Windows Media Format SDK for Windows Media 7. It''s used for reading/writing windows media files (audio, video and scripts)

Check out this site. As for me, I''d prefer using a standard codec than a ms controlled one-whatever suits your taste.

oh! that rules! I already use an mp3 sound engine, so if that works anywhere near as good as they claim it does, I will be very happy.
actually, the wma format cuts back on quality to achieve the better compression.
