Malaysian Prime Minister has basically gave an official announcement that flight 370 crashed into the southern Indian Ocean. How can he say that when Australia only said they found an odd item in a quadrant, but hasn't gone to look at it yet (according to the new just a half hour ago)?
I don't know, but my guess is that it might have something to do with the plane's last known location being in the Indian Ocean and the plane at that point not having enough fuel to go, you know, anywhere else.
But weren't they saying that they didn't know if the plane went in the direction of the southern Indian Ocean or not? When did they get the satellite data that confirms this?
I thought I read something about them having a new last-known location yesterday or this morning, but I could be entirely wrong.
To be honest, I meant my post more as an explanation about how it could be possible to know that the plane had crashed (even in the absence of finding any wreckage) rather than an accurate description of how this conclusion was reached.
That said, I would be very surprised if they reached the conclusion that the plane crased in the Indian Ocean in a substantially different way.
