I just wanted to resurrect this for a moment, and apologies for doing so, but anyway, I got the books from the library and I have begun to read. But I will have to put this aside for just a bit to finish my current masterwork (well, sort of a masterwork). But anyway, thank you all for your advice, I will read up on design and work on things while I am getting this submission ready. Cheers for now, but I will definitely be back!! cool.png

If you're interested in making a Harry Potter inspired RPG, I think you could get a lot of benefit out of reading the dozen or so Harry Potter fanfics where game mechanics have been added to the universe (usually as a unique ability of the main character, as inspired by the Korean webtoon/manhwa The Gamer). smile.png You can find them here, along with some Naruto, One Piece, and other fanfictions with game mechanics added.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

MMO means multi million online

MMO means "massively multiplayer online."

I think powerneg may have been making a joke about MMO budgets. laugh.png

You'll need to minimize the scope of your game, especially if this is your first go at making one. No matter what you want to make, it's going to take you longer than you think.

You should start by making a few small arcade games. Work your way through the decades of game development.

Build Pong. Build Space Invaders. Build Pac Man You have the advantage of not having to build them in 6502 assembly.

Once you can build games like these, then you can start building your own arcade games. Learn to walk before you try to participate in a decathlon. Going straight to MMO development will doom your project to failure. You might be able to pull off what you want to do as a MUD, but know that it may take a long time to develop.
