Where to start?

I would like to begin game development, but I'm not sure where to start. I need to know what the most recommended coding language is, and how to use it. I'm not sure what I want to do, but I'm going to try with something very simple. (Maybe using 8 bit sprites just moving around a board for now?)

So, what is the most recommended/best way I can start?

Hello Aron007,

Here are two articles from two different approaches:

Some of the decisions you make now can have an impact on you later on so I'd ask the following questions:

1. Do you mind learning more than one language? or do you want to learn one language?

2. Do you have any goals in mind? 2d games 3d games...? Work on a team for something ambitious? or just playing around?

3. How much do you want to do yourself? There are engines and libraries available to do all sort of things for you... are you more interested in making a game or do you want to know the lower level stuff too?

4. Do you have any preconceptions in regards to how much time it will take you?
