Building a game like "Game of War"

Hi everyone, I just finished writing down all the game ideas and game mechanics for a game like "Game of War". I'm new to developing games. Actually, I have never built a game except board games and card games and have no experience in developing. My brother had me download "Unity" and I'm still learning how to use it. So I have a few questions. Anyone else working on a project similar to mine? Should I just solo the project by learning how to design by myself? What is the best way to go about getting the game designed and marketed? I did a lot of game play and research myself so I know that this type of game can be very good and generate a lot of popularity. Like I said, I have all the ideas and math done. I can draw very well. I can learn design but will take me some time. I did research on marketing. I can always use advice for this. 65% key words, 35% word of mouth. This is not a Game Design question. Moving to For Beginners.

Like your other very similar posts, what you are asking is an enormous project. Even if you had 30 or 50 experienced game developers working with you, it would still be a full time project for an extended time.

> Anyone else working on a project similar to mine?

Many people begin such projects. I'm not aware of any that have begun this way that was completed.

There have been other projects meant as "spiritual successors", taking one or two simple aspects and making extremely simple games out of them. These are more likely to succeed, I've seen a handful of them reach completion out of hundreds I've seen started.

> Should I just solo the project by learning how to design by myself?

As a learning experience you can do either one.

> What is the best way to go about getting the game designed and marketed?

At this point in your experience, just trying to implement something will be enough of a challenge. You have mentioned Unity in your posts, if you are serious about it you can leverage Unity as far as you are able.

In this case don't try to market the game until you have completed it.

> I did a lot of game play and research myself so I know that this type of game can be very good and generate a lot of popularity.

Yes, the games you described with multi-million-dollar budgets were commercial successes. Since you don't have experience and you presumably do not have an $X0,000,000 budget (where X>0) you are unlikely to create that game.

> Like I said, I have all the ideas and math done. I can draw very well. I can learn design but will take me some time. I did research on marketing. I can always use advice for this.

Try to build it. Learn from the experience. Build something. Learn and grow.

But realize that your product made by an individual will not meet the same standards as a product built with hundreds of work years, and scale the project back accordingly.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming of building skyscrapers even when your skill and budget can only make sandcastles. Just recognize the reality of the type of project you are on.

Also, please be mindful to not cross post.

The posts have the same name, but are different enough I'm inclined to let them live instead of closing one, but know that people visit many areas of the site so you don't need to ask the same question in different forums.

All I need to do. Build a picture of a kingdom. Build each building. Allow players to build the buildings where they want. Have a world map. Resources. And some monsters. That's basicly all the designing. Like I said. All math done. Combat system. Warlords. Arena. Equipment. Skills. Level up coding. All of it is finished. I really don't believe it will take 50 developers.

Also, yes they are multi billion dallors in advertising but... I am smart. 65% of game is key words. I have a game name that makes it optimized for advertising. :)

True I don't know how to design a game. I can draw anything I see almost perfect. I have play tested many many games for experience. I have done enough research to know what's expected when making a game. I can design it on my own. And I do believe I have something worth it. But I don't know if its possible to find people I can trust to help me developed the game on market. Or if I should do it myself. What do you think?

I think with this post you've brought both your threads around to the same or a similar enough question, so I'm going to close this.
