So yesterday QRebound and I fleshed out an entire back story, and the beginning story. QRebound designed a map, and I being 1/4 artist took a day to flesh it out(in between coding sessions and other things). I think that it turned out really nice.

EDIT: Gah... Texture Splatting We use that, except 8 textures, 4 splat maps, 4 textures. Each splat map corrisponds to a texture.

Ahoy! Grass


Today I implemented placing grass by parsing splatmap image data for the grass splatmap. All it takes is the size of the island, the thickness of the grass, and the grass's splatmap's name. I'd say it looks pretty good ;)

It's been asked, how do your islands load?
Very simple, you fly off of one island, it gets fogged out, unload that island. When you get close enough to a new island that island/map is loaded then fogged in.

  • They have to be randomly genorated

Well I have been working on vegetation, in this image you see 9 trees(150 tris each) and 5000 grass meshes batches with Ogre's static geometry feature =)



I can assure you, no plants were harmed in the making of this screenshot

Next is taller grass that waves in the wind, ooohohoho =P
