After starting a topic that has potentially and I belive has sparked the infamous "flame" I decided to start this topic. WHICH STATE DO THE SIMPSONS LIVE IN? After watching Super Simpson with **Shudders** Ian **Begins to Vomit **Thorpe**, I began to pick up on all the clues which leads you to one of lifes greatest mysteries (If your a simpsons fan that is) Post your ideas or theories here. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW OR WHY YOU HATE THE SIMPSONS, IF YOU DISLIKE THE SIMPSONS, DON'T POST HERE! ---- Personally, from the clues I picked up, I believe they live in Utah. Clues: - In one episode (Lisa goes to Wahsington) They scroll through a map of the united states, though they don't show states names they come to 4 sates that meer at a single corner. Springfield is in the top left one, Utah. - In another episode (Can't remember name) Homer says "The simpson's are going to Branson Missouri" then Lisa says "but dad, brason is 1000 miles away!" Thats puts them roughly on any states on this line: Possible Simpsons Locations - Now the producers of the simpsons said they also put in stuff to throw people off. In one episode bart is watching the Top Hat Channel which is unavailable in Utah and Florida. However under this logic all my other evidense could be wrong. Hehe. - There is a gorge/canyon is outh eastern Utah, where springfield would reside if it were in that state. - There is both a springfield and a shelbyville in Utah. If it's possible for us to conceive it, than it must be possible.

Wow! Awesome deduction. I especially like the map you drew. Good thinking.

I also remember an episode where the Simpson family is trying to find Lisa's Brazilian orphan pen pal who went missing from his orphanage. Heraldo screams to Lisa, "But I don't know where you live!" and Lisa replies something to the effect of, "Well, it's a bit of a mystery, but if you put all the clues together, I think you can figure it out."

Thats my thinking in creating this post =P everyone contributes there theories and clues they've gathered, eventually we WILL figure it out.

I have also heard that they live in Illinois. Alos the producers say they live in a fictional state called north tamoka (I think that's its name) but that state must lie in america somewhere, and in which case we would try and find which state north tomoka is sitting on lol.

I've always thought it was Springfield, Illinois.

Me, too.

Springfield does not exist, and neither does the state it resides in. If you put the clues together, that is the conclusion you reach.

*edit: By the way, recitify your theory with the fact that Springfield occasionally lies on an ocean.

hmm, well mayb they live in florida, this would account for 2 of my theories, as for the map scrolling, perhaps (in simpsons fassion) they were looking at the map upside down =D. (Oh btw, there is a pretty big lake in utah, big enough to give the apearance of an ocean for someone standing on the beach [although the beaches would be much different even in a lak that size])

It is big enough to appear like an ocean, but it isn't quite big enough to contain international waters. They have also visited Florida.

East Springfield is 3 times the size of Texas. Factor that in...

I thought the went to the entirely fictional "Five Corners", so that each member of the family was in a different state.
I have a special stake in this, my last name actually being Simpson.

Well you can't expect a show of the simpsons nature to allways follow the rules so you can find the state they live in. of course there going to add fictional elements to add additional humour to the show.

oh, and south-eastern utah has a canyon, on the "lisa goes to washington" map, springfield is in south-eastern area of that state.

They also have three fantastically huge mountains nearby, one of which had never been climbed before Homer attempted to.

Look OP, Springfield isn't anywhere. It's a TV show. It's not supposed to be anywhere.

We know that, it's fun figuring out where they're most likely to be.

The Utah theory goes to hell because springfield is on the coast.

And yet you expect them to follow the rule of actually having it in a particular state?

North Tomoka sounds a lot like North Dakota - and there is a Springfield there [1]. Population 35! I doubt the township has it's own nuclear power plant.

They live in the state of confusion... [groan]

In one of the opening sequences, they do that super "powers of 10" zoom out from the top of Homer's head, through the roof of the house, all the way out to orbit, further on to outside the solar system, out of the galaxy, etc, etc, until they get all the way back to a molecule on Homer's head again, after which Homer goes, "Coooool." I know there's a video of this out there somewhere (don't have time to go looking for it at the moment) but if somebody could find it, there would probably be a frame or two in which you can tell which state (or general area) the Simpson house is located.
