Team Name: Terror Visual Dev Project Name: Red Online Brief description: Red Online is a MMORPG in full 3D. Using a clean HL2 template the TV Dev team hope produce a game that jumps out of HL2's Shadow and claims the souls of all who play it. It is set in a Fantasy world which challanges and re-defines fairy tales, legends and mythology. Using a clever mix of 'ye olde' and 'futuristic' influences we have the concepts that, with the right team has the potential to become an awesome game. See "Addtional Info" for Story links. Target aim: This project is essentially a portfolio piece but depending on the level of success could turn into a commercial venture. Of course, in that case all team members will be paid a negotiated amount. Compensation: As above stated...full credits and links to websites/portfolios will be offered. Technology: Valve Source Engine (Coding in C++,Physics Engine, Multi Player Aspects) Valve Source Hammer (Mapping) 3DS Max/Maya for 3D Work (this is negotiable) Talent needed: [Edit:Code Team Leader Recruited] -An Experienced Modeler (Model Team Leader): As team leader it will be your responsibility to undertake the most challenging model briefs. You should have strong skills in Low Poly modeling and be able to use either Maya or 3DS Max. Again just get in contact with a Resume. - 2-3 Modelers: Just prove you can model and you’re in. We need you mainly for items, mobs and map aspects. - 2-3 C++ Coders: You will work under the Code Team Leader/me. I have yet to discuss details with the CTL but just express an interest/provide a Resume and I will get in contact ASAP. Team structure: Full Team List here We boast an extremely talented and experienced Story team who are conceptualizing a treasure trove of innovative Game Systems/Fiction we hope to storm the MMORPG genre's Castle with. Check out the early concept story from the "Additional Info" section at the bottom. A strong mapping team is another of our assets. Having strong graphics and visual backgrounds we are at the beginnings of some truly breath taking maps. Screenies: here, here, here, here, here Note: These are uber early screenshots and are unlike how we anticipate the final look. Our Coding team is mostly small and un-experienced but with a will. We are learning quickly and expect to pick up some pro's to lead soon. (edit): we just picked up a really expirienced coder who will be acting as Code Team Leader. Lastly is the modeling team... ...Or lack of. We have 3 prospects but all are complete beginners. Website: Website here. Forums here. OK, Thanks for your interest.
We still need 1 or 2 coders/modelers.

One difficulty you might run into is that the Source client/server architecture isn't designed for "massive" games. What's your plan for fixing this?

Thats true,

We have planned on having alot of small, linked maps in an attempt to counter this problem. Its not a standard mmo we have planned here, with some thought we should be able to spread players out without losing enjoyment.

I guess thats gonna our biggest head ache and we are gonna have to come up with ways of keeping that massive feel but losing some of the strain on the engine.

Lets see this as an experiment ;) and if we have to scrap stuff then so be it, but whatever its gonna be fun.

Too an extent we will be influenced by games like Gun Online and Raikion check em out if u havent they do some interesting stuff on that subject.

Thanks for bringing that up btw :D
