Project name: Blokkos Brief description: Blokkos is a Java-based puzzle game, featuring 18 levels. The player has a pile up of multi-colored blocks that he needs to make disappear by joining them in groups of the same color. The only problem is that he can only move the first block of each row and has a limited amount of moves to clear each level. The programming is pretty much complete, with all the gameplay finished... just need to do some basic touch ups (stuff like options menu, level clear effects/screen, etc). You can play the game's test version before accepting the job. Target aim: The game will be for two platforms: web and mobile. The web version is to be made available for free (although there's always the option of licensing it for use elsewhere), while the mobile version is to be commercially distributed. Compensation: A percentage of potential revenue that the game or your work may generate (game copies sold, game licenses sold, ringtones, wallpapers, etc). I have no idea how much money (if any) will this generate, so there are no promises on that. I'll try to maximize the revenue potential (with the wallpapers and ringtones, for example), but there's always the chance that it won't even pay for a cup of coffee (don't want to mislead anyone). Technology: Graphics should be in .PSD, music and sounds should be in .mid for the mobile version and .au for the web version (what tools you use are up to you) Talent needed: - One artist - One musician/sound fx producer * As an important note, the work would be for both the mobile and web versions. The web version will probably run at 640*480, while the mobile version should be made for the standard resolutions (176*208, 128*128, 128*160, etc... the more versions we do, the higher the chances of getting revenue). You should also follow my instructions precisely, especially in the mobile versions, as we're dealing with platforms with strict limits (for example, target file size for the mobile version varies between 64 and 120 kb for everything: code, graphics and sounds/music). * On a secondary note, I'm a fan of the anime/manga look in puzzle games, so I'd prefer someone who works in that style (the game will feature one or two characters that show up every now and then - splash, next level screen, etc). Team structure: Right now, there's only me. You can check out my website at http://www.pedroamaro.com for additional information (although a bit outdated), but I'll just lay out the basics about my "career", so you know who you'll be working with. Indie days: I've started out as an indie, having published my first games in 2002. As an indie, my most popular mobile games were Colourama (sold around 2500 copies), Cube (sold around 6000 copies) and Energox (sold around 10000 copies). I've also created a few basic web games, which were licensed for three months to a gaming website (as a promotion for their users). Professional days: Following my "indie days", I've worked for a third party mobile game developer for two and a half years. I've started as programmer (porting and core), moving to Lead Game Designer after 4 months. In my last months there, I've also accumulated the tasks of Associate Producer and Art Team Leader. During this period I've worked in over 50 titles, both original and branded games. Current situation: I'm back to being an independent developer, working once again in web and mobile games (on my own or freelancing). The work I consider worthy of being sold is published by Orama Technologies (a new independent development company I'm affiliated with - website available at http://www.oramatechnologies.com). Articles: I enjoy writing and I'm a regular columnist at two magazines ("Skoar!", from India, and "Megascore", from Portugal) and a website (Midlet Review). I've also published two articles: "The clash of mobile platforms" (published at gamedev.net, Developer 2.0 and Midlet Review) and Mobile Benchmarking (published at Midlet Review). Website: http://www.pedroamaro.com Contacts: You can reach me at pamaro@gmail.com Additional Info: The following screenshots feature test graphics: My best attempt at doing some graphics on my own (very poor outcome) Level 1-1 Pushing a block Level 5-1 Feedback: NONE (the gameplay is already complete and tester feedback was extremely positive, so it won't be changed) [Edited by - pamaro on September 2, 2006 4:24:29 PM]

Note to Peter W.: my e-mail reply to your contact bounced back, so please provide another e-mail address, in case you're still interested.

Also, on a general note that I forgot to mention when I wrote the original post, when submitting work samples, please submit work that fits the target platforms (for example, if you're an artist, please submit samples aimed at the resolutions that should be covered).

Finally, even though I mentioned I prefer the anime/manga look, I don't mind going for a different style if the art is good enough... so, even if that's not your main style, feel free to contact me if you're interested.

Since two artists submitted samples based on my first screenshot, I'd like to clarify that the final version isn't supposed to be similar to it (that was just an attempt made with my rather limited artistic skills). If you decide to submit a work sample based on this game, feel free to use all your imagination. The only thing I request is that you keep the relative positions of each game element (the device that pulls the blocks, the drop corridor, the block storage area, the main block area and the meter).

I'm sorry if having the screenshot there gave the impression that I wanted the game to be just like that, as it wasn't my intention.

On another note, I'd like to add it's important if you can produce animated sprites (for use in the game elements, as well as in the special screens).

Hello

I'm a hobbyist composer from Finland. Here's a sample of my work, it's very simple and short, and in MIDI. I made as a demo to this project only. If you like it, or you would like something different to your project, tell me.

Thank you,

I'm sorry, but both positions are already filled. I forgot to mention it here, but this thread can be closed now.

I've already contacted all who e-mailed me, but I'd like to thank everybody once again for their applications. Maybe we'll end up cooperating in another project in the future. :)
