I am a Game Design student at SNHU and I have a few questions about creating a prototype. What resources are available for creating this stage of development? What are some key points that someone needs to keep in mind? I will appreciate any feedback.

First feedback: Your teachers suck. Tell them to stop sending students to web forums with assignments like this, and do their job as teachers. They do it every year, and it is a terrible assignment by lazy instructors.

It isn't your fault, but realize your school sucks in a lot of ways. Consider looking at better schools if you have that opportunity. “Game Design” is a terrible degree, get a computer science degree, get a fine arts degree. Their “Game Design” program is much like getting a philosophy degree: useful while also useless.

Game engines. Tell your teachers you need to learn about gray box levels.
