What I want to know, is why do the '<' and '>' tags around my bold comments in my sig get changed to '[' ']' respectively?

"It’s da bomb, baby"

Just edit my message to see what I'm talking about. The < b >'s were originally 's, but if I put in my sig it doesn't show up correctly at all UNLESS I edit the message and click make modifications (without changing anything). INTERESTING, HUH???<br><br>Edited by - wrenhal on July 7, 2000 11:02:41 AM <br><br>Edited by - wrenhal on July 7, 2000 11:03:56 AM

I think I figured some of this out. Since we''re mostly programmers, I''ll explain it in code...

OK, say they have a function called Convert() that replaces OR signs with slashes, < B > tags to , : ) to <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>, etc. Whenever you post a message, it calls Convert() passing the post you entered. Then it appends your signature the result without calling Convert() on your sig. But when you edit a message and click "Make Modifications", it calls Convert() on the whole thing. That''s why the smilies in wrenhal''s signature didn''t show up until after editing (same w/ the tags.) <br><br><A HREF="mailto:lntakitopi@aol.com"><B><FONT COLOR="#00ff80">l</FONT><FONT COLOR="#18ff73">n</FONT><FONT COLOR="#39ff63">t</FONT><FONT COLOR="#59ff53">a</FONT><FONT COLOR="#79ff42">k</FONT><FONT COLOR="#9aff32">i</FONT><FONT COLOR="#bbff22">t</FONT><FONT COLOR="#dbff11">o</FONT><FONT COLOR="#fcff01">p</FONT><FONT COLOR="#e4ff0d">i</FONT><FONT COLOR="#c6ff1c">@</FONT><FONT COLOR="#a9ff2a">a</FONT><FONT COLOR="#8bff39">o</FONT><FONT COLOR="#6eff48">l</FONT><FONT COLOR="#50ff57">.</FONT><FONT COLOR="#33ff65">c</FONT><FONT COLOR="#16ff74">o</FONT><FONT COLOR="#00ff80">m</FONT></A><font color='#00ff80'> - </font><A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/guanajam"><FONT COLOR="#00ff80">h</FONT><FONT COLOR="#09ff7b">t</FONT><FONT COLOR="#1bff72">t</FONT><FONT COLOR="#2cff69">p</FONT><FONT COLOR="#3dff61">:</FONT><FONT COLOR="#4eff58">/</FONT><FONT COLOR="#60ff4f">/</FONT><FONT COLOR="#71ff47">w</FONT><FONT COLOR="#82ff3e">w</FONT><FONT COLOR="#93ff36">w</FONT><FONT COLOR="#a5ff2d">.</FONT><FONT COLOR="#b6ff24">g</FONT><FONT COLOR="#c7ff1b">e</FONT><FONT COLOR="#d8ff13">o</FONT><FONT COLOR="#eaff0a">c</FONT><FONT COLOR="#fbff01">i</FONT><FONT COLOR="#f2ff06">t</FONT><FONT COLOR="#e3ff0d">i</FONT><FONT COLOR="#d3ff15">e</FONT><FONT COLOR="#c3ff1d">s</FONT><FONT COLOR="#b4ff25">.</FONT><FONT COLOR="#a4ff2d">c</FONT><FONT COLOR="#94ff35">o</FONT><FONT COLOR="#85ff3c">m</FONT><FONT COLOR="#75ff44">/</FONT><FONT COLOR="#66ff4c">g</FONT><FONT COLOR="#56ff54">u</FONT><FONT COLOR="#46ff5c">a</FONT><FONT COLOR="#37ff64">n</FONT><FONT COLOR="#27ff6b">a</FONT><FONT COLOR="#17ff73">j</FONT><FONT COLOR="#08ff7b">a</FONT><FONT COLOR="#00ff80">m</FONT></B></A>

Because the signature is added without being converted. It works after you edit it because when you click "Make Modifications" everything - including your sig - is converted.

The trick to flight is to throw yourself at the ground and miss!!!
yay! it worked. i put it in my signature and it didn''t convert to \

ok, here''s a suggestion: type your whole message in your signature area, then post an empty message (it doesn''t let you post empty messages, so type an space and then enter and you''re done *L*)

btw: don''t forget to change yout signature back after u''re done...

But then you can''t edit it

The question is if it’s worth the bother. do we really need OR signs that desperately ?
