Endless Saga

The website (not for Firefox use :) ) Little project I've been working on for a little while. I've only actually started developping it a week or two ago, though. I'm hoping there'll be a demo soon enough, though currently it's just screenshots and documents. Endless Saga is an RPG designed with the intention to provide a degree of challenge modern RPGs simply fail to deliver anymore while keeping an oldschool feel. The game engine will ressemble the playstation RPG "Xenogears" in that the environments are fully 3D but characters and objects are sprites. The battle system will be somewhat akin to that seen in RPGs such as "Final Fantasy 5" and "Final Fantasy Tactics" in that characters can "purchase" abilities and are given a skill tree to expand. Featuring an open-ended storyline, I'm hoping to deliver something that will interest people as much as your average off-the-shelf RPG. The estimated time to finish this project, however, exceeds a year. But I should be able to get a few demos here and there up long before that, and a playable demo sooner or later.

Sounds cool! A playable demo would be awesome. Do you have any screenshots right now?

Good luck!

Or use in regular Mozilla (of course), Opera, Konqueror, Epiphany (not surprisingly), Dillo (understandably), or lynx (an act of desperation). The project sounds interesting, but why not follow web standards for the website?
I probably will eventually, but I only use Firefox at work to test web applications for compatibility with other browsers and to make sure they're standards compliant (unless they're for internal use only). I don't use it at home and, quite frankly, don't even want to install it. ;) So my developement is a little restricted. The MAIN issue right now is just the XML namespace which is outdated, and perhaps making sure that the box model doesn't screw up in other browsers. Up until recently it hasn't been a very public thing.

Support for Lynx sounds unlikely, as it doesn't support client-side XSLT transformations (I think? Maybe my version is just too old?) Thumbs up for mentionning it, though; I thought I was the only person who even considered it a browser. ;)

@Holy Fuzz:
The website has three screenshots and a midi, as well as a few documents.

How very very very sad.

And what browser should we use to view your site? If the answer is Internet Explorer then you need to rethink your approach, mate.

That's fully besides the point.

No it's not. I'm sorry but if you want people to visit your site, you should appeal to the largest audience available. "That's fully besides the point"????

Um, No.

Goodie! I forgot I was showcasing a website, and that this thread was entirely about web standards! Thanks for showing me the light! :D

But seriously. No offense intended by the above jest but, deal with it however you want, it is besides the point of this thread. I'm showing off a game engine, not a website. If you're terrified of opening IE to view a single website, then just don't have a look and don't comment; move on to another thread. Simple as that. :)

Ok I thought this was really really funny. You see, I'm a Java Developer and so I've had a lot of experience working with websites and making sure they're compatible with all types of browsers out there. On our reports we found that over 90% of the users use IE over any other browser when they visit our webapps. But even then if you have your own small website and look at the users that visit it you will find that most of the time those users visit your site via IE. Normal users (i.e. not programmers) are the majority that are interested in playing games/visiting game sites and I'm sure that majority will say firewho before they say firefox... So when you say that this guy should appeal to the largest audience available, I think that's what he's doing. In time I'm sure he'll redo the site to make us developers that use Firefox (which has some security problems right now) happy. =)

Anyways, great idea and I hope this project turns out ok man!
