Enjoy our festive dev diary #100! We've come a long way!

  • Julian takes you on a journey through our project.

  • Our main question to you: Now that we turned 100 and mostly work on polishing the game, what would YOU like to see in future dev diaries? Any topics of special interest? Dev questions?
  • Son of Nor is now available as Steam Early Access version. Thank you for supporting us: http://store.steampowered.com/app/264000/

How to better watch a game come to life than seeing a pro YouTuber play it? We're happy that Blame the Controller (BTC) picked up Son of Nor for a let's play spin! (This guy really gets our “The World is Your Weapon” tagline!)

Take one of the closest looks into the development of Son of Nor!

    • On popular demand, we're showing our development process, daily routine and the tools we use to collaborate despite living on different continents. THIS is how we develop Son of Nor.

  • You'll see in this video that we're working on Oculus and emotic EPOC integration. Briefly. To all people waiting for that: We're on it :) Yeah!

We show you how we are giving more life to the world of Noshrac. We also take a look at TRI in our Indie Corner!

    • We are starting to implement the animal system which will spawn random animals in the environment to give more life to the world and create more immersion.

  • As always we are polishing our work, this time we show how we are fixing the animations that cause overlapping of clothing with the bodies of playable characters.
  • CALLING FOR REVIEWS: If you are playing and enjoying Son of Nor, please write a review of our game in the Son of Nor Steam Community Hub, we would appreciate it very much!
  • Indie Corner: We take a look at TRI: Of Friendship and Madness. Pretty awesome game!

Have an inside look at our real life hack week and see some code from the pro!

    • Our main dev Julian shows some code of how he implemented mass telekinesis. How do we manage to keep a clear line of sight? How does it work that rocks don't end up in front of each other?

Butt-watching's over :) Sorry. It was fun while it lasted!

    • Try and play 4 new game jam games made in 24 hours and look deeper into our daily routines. This week: Making the dev diary and our regular testing sessions. And since some people could only talk about the huge butt outside the Radir, we now gave the Horastes statue some clothes!

I think we hit a point with the Dev Diaries where we have to change something in order to make the Dev Diaries interesting again to a larger crowd. We're currently constantly losing viewers on YouTube, telling us that our current Dev Diary format isn't interesting enough anymore.
I'd really like to ask you what you think.

    • Why do you think about the current dev diary content? Why could it be that we lose viewers? Isn't it interesting anymore? Did we show parts of the game for too long, so it just did get boring?
    • What do you think would be a great dev diary then? What content would you be interested in that you think a lot of other devs or gamers would be too?
    • Should we direct the dev diary at developers or gamers?
    • Should we continue showing the progress or focus on more general themes like "how to make a game". How our process looks like, what roles we have and what people do what kind of work. Game design questions, programming tips... Showing more what we learned, soft skills, working in a distributed team... Other ideas?
Thanks for any input. We're all learning here and I think discussing some marketing is important for all of us.

Last dev diary was quite fun. No idea what else to add.

I'd like more programming related highlights, then again, those won't prolly be too popular for the vast majority of non-programmer crowd. Maybe divide it up in different categories and have a more narrow focus on each of the dev diaries? Wolfire had this with their Overgrowth dev blog posts, they divided it up like "Programming" post, "Art" post, "Design" post, and so on. Then again, they're not regular at all releasing things, so that model might not fit your case.

Sometimes (say, dev diary #102), you upload a video with... less than ideal voice recording. Put a high pass on that thing so we don't hear the low frequency bumps. If you put it on an equalizer you'll notice the low frequency (80Hz and less) "bumps".

"I AM ZE EMPRAH OPENGL 3.3 THE CORE, I DEMAND FROM THEE ZE SHADERZ AND MATRIXEZ"

My journals: dustArtemis ECS framework and Making a Terrain Generator

Hmm, a bid sad we didn't get more answers how you guys would like the dev diaries to continue. But thanks TheChubu for providing some insight. I'll take it to the team.

I'll ask again anyway: If you'd watch a dev diary regularly, what should it contain?

Meanwhile, here's our latest one. We're going behind the scenes again to show how cutscenes are made.

    • In our "behind the scenes" series we take a deeper look at how cutscenes are made in Son of Nor.
    • We programmed our own tool for creating cutscenes. See how it works and how Ricardo's daily routine looks like when he has cutscene tasks assigned by our producer Alex.
