Your most memorable childhood game?

[size=2]Thumbs up for Rayman. It's not one of the oldest games for me, but I played it 10 years ago on my GBA so it's still nostalgic. Aside from the music, the port feels almost perfect.

I mostly grew up with consoles. Nobody else in my family used computers before I did, and Nintendo marketed better to kids than Commodore did. So an NES it was. My best friend had the Genesis so I played a lot of Sonic 2 with him. I had played the Mario classics, mostly SMB3.. I can remember walking down to the local video store to try to rent it but every time their only copy was out. It was a very happy day when on my 9th birthday I got it as a gift, along with Game Genie.

Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Adventure Island left a big impression on me, music wise. The latter I think is especially overlooked- just think Streets of Rage music, but with the SNES sound chip!

Oregon Trail is still the best educational game for me. Though admittedly a part of me wishes it can be adapted to a modern, wild west themed MMO game.

Zelda OOT for emotional engagement.

Unreal Tournament for peaking my adenaline levels.

All games that really stuck with me had an excellent soundtrack. Such an underappreciated aspect of games, it seems like they paid more attention to it in the 90ies; or maybe im just getting old.
I haven't played hundreds of games like other more seasoned gamers have and I still find it very hard to write just one game. But so be it! Little Big Adventure 2 is a game that I have strong emotions about. I was last year elementary school when I played it (11 years old). I had played a demo of the game and after a few days went to a retail store to buy it.. I was VERY disappointed when the guy at the store told me that the full game would be heavier than the demo and would not run well with 8 megs of RAM. Fortunately I went ahead and bought it and it actually ran fine! A truly unique game set in a strange and colorful world filled with adventure! The game's music is also great. Plenty of youtube videos if you want to take a look!

Wow, major thumbs up for Little Big Adventure 2 (AKA Twinsen's Odyssey). I remember playing this a few years ago. It's an exotic game, a mix of exploring and fighting. I had to play with a printed walkthrough guide by my side but it was still a very enjoyable experience. The casino, the labyrinths, the spaceship, the factory, all the crazy places you visit - I especially liked the way you travel around worlds.

Someone did the courtesy of uploading the music that plays when you're installing the game. It's a compilation of the first themes you get to hear, so it's very nostalgic: www.youtube.c...h?v=FqrNEjtl2FI
The soundtrack, by the way, was composed by Phillipe Vachey, who also did the music for the first Alone in the Dark, for DOS (he worked for companies like Infogrames, Delgine etc. french game-making elite who also made LBA).

I'm just doing some research into what makes certain games soo memorable.

To me, the 2 best games i can remember was, super mario sunshine- it just was an amazing game- i love the concept of water in the use of gadgets throughtout the game.

Also, stargox adventure- the graphics are stunning considering it was on the gamecube...

Like the wii, i think the gamecube deserves more respect... It tried to be more, instead of just better, which some of other platforms do.

And later on, ofcourse, my love of my sad boring pathetic life - Halo... I hate bungie for making that game! It's why I have no girlfriends! :D

Anyone else want to share anyideas?

Perhaps one would be Jump Start 3rd Grade. I played the game in my pre-school days biggrin.gif.

I loved the RPG-ish concept of the game and the random animations that popped out when i clicked a certain object whether it was a flower, robot, vase, etc.

The mini games were awesome, and they dished out learning in a fun way.

It was like an RPG with a comprehensive arcade of side-games. Saving the History of the World, one minigame at a time.

Another one would be Super Mario Land in the 1989 Gameboy. I simply loved the kiddie hit-and-run concept of the game. It never gets old for me
Oh, I can't forget GoldenEye for the N64. Great gameplay, multiplayer never got boring.

Now I gotta try the Source Engine remake...

@JustChris: Last I tried (admittingly years ago), the Source remake wasn't very good. You might have better luck with the Wii remake, though I have no personal experience with that.
