Detour...

So, I took a little detour while making my sidescroller and ended up making a verticalscroller-shooter.

First off, it's pretty horrible lol. Pretty much the point of the game is to get as many kills as you can, getting a different message depending on how many you've killed (different messages at 51, 101, and 151.) Less than 101 kills is pretty much a failure (you tried, but Earth still gets destroyed), 101 is to 151 is success, and 151+ is complete destruction of the invading forces.

It's got some major bugs so I had to make do since I wanted to finish this today so I could finish working on my sidescroller. First off, for those of you that have super good machines, the clouds are going to scroll pretty fast. It had a nice effect on my machine, but if it gets too unbearable, say so and I'll fix it (I had it setup for time-based movement, but it was jittering for some reason when I switched to release mode[sad].) I also have shields and item pickups coded up, but had to cut them so that I could finish it today.

I also had a menu-system coded up, but forgot to include it lol.

Sadly, their are no cool explosions.

You may notice that when a ship dies, it's bullets go with it. Yea, that's bad design at its finest.

The good thing is that I was able to find a problem that I wouldn't have found while developing my sidescroller (since it would have been a week or two before I tried release mode.)

Here she be (Windows only, sorry[depressed]): Alien Invasion.
(I'm really glad I just went through and checked my files, since the version I had uploaded had almost a 1.5mb of extra, unused files and you shouldn't have to download that, huh?)

If you have any problems, say so and I'll do what I can to fix them tomorrow. I don't plan on enhancing this version any more (other than bug-reports), but I do plan on doing another version in the future (a more complete version.)

I'm off to bed now.

Edit: Yea, so much for bed at 2:00 (it's going on 5.) I just finished updating the MalykAI design document. It's official now and I'm going to sink into developing it after work tomorrow. The updated version includes a sort-of todo list that has everything on it (if it's not in the list I'm not putting it in the game.) If anybody has any suggestions I'll leave it open until tomorrow night.

Anyway, I'm off to bed (again). I have to be up in just over 4 hours to work, YAY!!!

HMMMM...

I stole the ship design from Wing Commander myself, so I shouldn't complain. It looks pretty good for a day's work; I doubt I could code something that fast unless my internet were turned off and I was strapped to my desk with a gun pointed at my head and a hot woman working underneath the desk.

Oh, I guess I should add that it ran perfectly on my box :P

lol, I knew you were going to post something since I practically stole the game idea from you[lol]. To tell you the truth though, the ship design is a combination of the ship from Andromeda and the symbol from Rogue Squadron, although it does bear a resemblance to your ship.

[lol]

This is one area where I'm lucky since I somehow can manage to be in a chatroom talking to people and still get things done. Combine that with the fact that I'm a hermit and I can type really fast. Up until now the only thing that has been stopping me from finishing things is my procrastinating[rolleyes].

I do however, want to thank you, since I did practically steal the idea from you lol. Also, thanks for testing it!

Wow, that sucks. I mean, it sucks. Really, really, really sucks.

But it's 'finished'. That counts for something.

I chopped out everything just so I could finish it. It was more of an engine/code library test anyway.

Thanks for the encouraging words!!!
