I have to also recommend the military, though my recommendation goes to the Air Force, as they are more technology oriented than infantry/grunt oriented. In any case it is very respectable to join the military in any branch(whichever suits you best), and as ildave said, you are guaranteed a place to live, a pay check, and skills you can use for the rest of your life.
My dad was in the army for 18 years and my brother is looking at the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Army, I've been around military people my whole life, and it's definitely as good a way to go as any.

Aww, that really sucks, man. What did you get fired for? Please say that EDI didn't fire you.

Last time someone had this problem here on gamedev I told them to move to Norway, and I mean it.
Although I'm 15 and still along way from 18, I know that Norway is one of the best countries to live in. Socialised medicine, low crime rate, a little above average education and friendly people all contribute to this.
But of course, moving from the US to Norway may be a costly affair, but our government will help you establish a home.

The bottom line is, you will get 4 years of employment. They'll teach you things that you could really use in the civilian world. You can shoot for a programming job, with persistance. Nothing says you have to re-enlist and the bottom line is -- you could probably benefit from the entire experience.
Paycheck is guarenteed.
A roof over your head is guarenteed.
3 Meals daily is there for you.
You'll meet so many people to network with.
... The benefits are endless.
For your situation, I'd heavily consider it man. You need to think hard about the decision, but it is a good one that will get you back on your feet.
The other option is juggling a can on the side of the road. Your roomate isn't working for you and the bills are stacking...
Think about it.
EDIT: If you have -ANY- questions about the Marine Corps or the Military in general, talk to me on AIM (aim marine).
