Holiday

Just come back from holiday. Just camping in North Norfolk.

Went to see these dudes:

They were pretty cool.

This is me lost in a maze:

Obviously I've run this through Paint Shop Pro's "uglify" filter and I'm far better looking in real life.

Mazes are shit, actually. Used to find them very entertaining as a kid, but now they just bore me.

But generally had a very nice weekend. Off work today and tomorrow so really need to crack on with some game stuff. Udo is on the back burner again, poor bugger, while I play with my "swinging around on an extendable mechanical arm" idea again.

Big stumbler at the moment is resolutions, or rather how to cope with none 4:3 modes. Sod it - just going to letterbox the bastard.

That's why I letterboxed Mop. I just decided "this game will run at 16x9, and everyone else can suck it." (incidentally, that everyone else included myself, since I didn't have a widescreen monitor at the time).

Yeah. To hell with it. Never get anything done otherwise.

One concern I have - does anyone else there mount their monitors sideways and basically have 3:4 or 9:16? Or am I getting a bit lost in stupidity?

Also, since 4/3 is 1.333333(recurring), how the hell do you program to decide what dimensions to use? In a way that would be future proof against different aspect ratios in the future?

Y'know, I'm getting sodding tempted to just write my next game windowed.
