Quite a bit done today. I have the title screen working, which wasn't too hard as I had implemented something similar identical for Breakout. The image just has the title and the options drawn on at the moment and I will have to go back later and add some more to fill in the empty space.

I also managed to get a scrolling background working (eventually) for the LevelStart state but I have a Background class which I can use in any other states I will need a scrolling background.

Finally, I managed to draw the outline of the player's ship. I'm surprised at how good it looks so far given my lack of artistic ability:

Admittedly it is just straight lines and block colours at the moment so we'll see if the artist that is (hopefully) hiding in me will make himself known when I start drawing the details.
