Pygame is also fairly good. It doesn't have the best documentation but as a games library it is more than servicable. I'm still getting into the flow of coding in python. I'm going to put together some small game just to get used to coding in it. I'll spend a few days on that, and then I'll get back down to the other game.
I've been reading docs and tutorials and messing around all day with python and I have to say that it is definitely not bad. I definitely prefer it to Java. I think for small games I'll start moving over to python from now on. C++ is still my weapon of choice when it comes to serious games or apps but Python just takes so much off your hands.
