New Small Project: Project Alpha Redux

It's now December. 2005 is nearly over. However, it isn't over yet! I've still got three weeks before I start my Christmas/New Year holiday back home in Melbourne, which should be enough time to make a start on a new project. I've been slacking off a bit over the last few days, so it's time to get back to work!

I'd like to get an alpha version of another small game finished by the end of the year. Given the short amount of time left, I've decided to resurrect "Project Alpha", the block-based puzzle game, which I was working on at the start of the year (before joining GDNet). "Project Alpha" was an attempt to make an all-in-one Tetris-y block based puzzle game that played a whole variety of those polyomino square grid based games, but it died due to over-engineering. Given the small amount of time I have left this year, I think I could change it to a simple Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League clone and still complete it in the time available. Admittedly that's not a very original idea, but all my other ideas will take too long to complete right now. I still think I need to work on my development skills, so this is a good small project to work on. I'll see how good a game I can make in the remainder of the year.
