Detail textures, step 5

Actually, i should stop calling this "detail textures". Detail textures are now in and fully working, so i guess as soon as next time i'll go back to "terrain step". I'm really not that productive these days: i'm spending far too much time exploring the planet, tuning the parameters, colors, etc..

WOW Amazing! Just wondering how many years of experience do you have programming? And how much experience with Directx or OpenGL?

Consider it a virtual holiday - I'm sure you deserve it [smile]

So in this game will you be out and walking on the planet? Or will you just be flying low to the ground?

I guess I'm just curious how it looks from the player's view when they actually get to the planet and start walking around it or whatever they will do. The most common view of the planet during gameplay... i guess...

hungryhippo5000: more or less 15 years; i've started learning OpenGL in 1999.

Laz: more of the time you'll be flying at low altitudes, but i'm considering adding some ground vehciles.

AP: yes, that's going to be my "next big work".

Oh, you can't do that!
This is not fair!

No, honestly, with some nice trees, it's photorealistic.
Terragen in real time.

Maybe I can be a better "competitor" in near future...

I'm looking forward to that! Competition is good: it boosts eveybody's motivation :)

Probably the only reason I am still working on my planet renderer after reading this journal ;)
Mine isn't very pretty yet, but on the other hand it does run on my Dev machine (867 Mhz + Radeon 9000 Mobility), i.e slow and pre fragment-shader or vertex-texture.

The tweaking has paid off. These are a great improvement over your older screens.

Wow... can't wait for the orbit to ground video!

Going down a few journal entries, it looks like you need to work on the water-land conversion... i.e. the banks of the rivers and pools and such. They looks sorta blurry.

Otherwise, if you get any better than this, I'm gonna scream. :O

i think when walking on one of these planets must feel like being the first man on earth.

still: im curious on part 2 of the experience
let me explain

research has showed (and it was obvious anyway) that sound makes the experience (in theatres and cinemas and such).
hearing the wind and water flow (in a realistic way) would definetly complete the experience
