Start learning C++....Might take a while then try to make a simple game like hang man or something, Nothing like HALO (Witch is a cool game).....This is comming from a beginner.

Books are helpful if you don''t mind shelling out the vast amounts of money to keep a shelf well stocked... I know people that learned nearly all off online texts and such but I''ve always been a paper kind of person. Cheers.
Before you start trying to make games, make sure you really know the language you''re going to use. It can be frustrating when you only ''kinda'' know it. Get a good foundation in whichever language you''re going to use. It really isn''t too hard to learn if you stick with it.
