I am typing in this code from a book I got and I am typing it in exactly. I have linked to everything correctly like it says and it keeps giving me one error: unreferenced external symbol "IID_IDirectDraw4" here is the code: // DEMO6_1.CPP basic DirectDraw initialization demo // INCLUDES /////////////////////////////////////////////// #define WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN // just say no to MFC #include // include important windows stuff #include #include #include // include important C/C++ stuff #include #include #include #include #include #include #include #include #include #include #include // include directdraw // DEFINES //////////////////////////////////////////////// // defines for windows #define WINDOW_CLASS_NAME "WINCLASS1" // TYPES ////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // MACROS ///////////////////////////////////////////////// #define KEYDOWN(vk_code) ((GetAsyncKeyState(vk_code) & 0x8000) ? Are you POSITIVE that you''re linking to everything correctly? It sounds to me like you might be forgetting to link ddraw.lib and/or dxguid.lib. It''s under Project / Settings in VC++ 6. If you already have them, try putting them first if they aren''t already.

Other than that, I don''t know why you''d be having a problem. Assuming you''re including ddraw.h (which doesn''t show up due to the HTML nature of the board) you shouldn''t have any problems.
it was because i wasnt linking to dxguid.lib, the book didn''t tell me to link to that so i thought i linked to everything thanx a lot jaxson
