Hardware Accelerated Blitting question
I've seen a lot of talk lately about people wanting to write their own blitter functions for system memory to system memory blits. This has me a little confused. Do most video cards only accelerate blits from video memory to video memory? For instance, if I used blt() to blit from system memory to system memory, or from system memory to video memory, would DirectX do it via software, or could the hardware support the operation?
Thanks

Yes you are right ...
My video card (Voodoo3) and other new ones accelerate form 1.video to video (the best)
2.System to Video (hmmm... a little)
Most cards only accelerate from Video to Video (older cards)
So its very important to keep as may surfaces as u can in video memory
And even more important NOT TO READ from Video memory at ALL!
Hope this helps!
