I am currently employed as a programmer in the business software industry and I would like to get into game development. The problem is, I''m not quite sure how to go about it. There are very few gaming companies in my area and while I''m not completely opposed to moving, it''s not my first choice. I''ve considered starting one on my own, but am lacking the finacial resources to do it properly. I am also working on an internet based project in my spare time, but given its slow progress, it''s probably not a viable option. I would appreciate any suggestions that you have.

You could try and get in touch with other programmers in your area with the same interest. Post your location in one of these forums asking if anyone lives close by and would like to meet to discuss the possibility of working together on something.

Then, do stuff in your spare time (evenings and weekends) to get your business off the ground, and let it grow until you think you can quit your regular job.

Well, just for strating out, you could develop shareware games on your own and either have them distributed through one of the companies that will do that for you, or do it on your own. After you''ve got going, you can start something real.

If you code it, they will come...
