This thread is for those who''ve seen the movie, and want to discuss the plot twists. Don''t read on if you haven''t seen it! Repeat! Don''t read on if you haven''t seen Matrix Reloaded!!! OK. First of all. What''s the deal with Neo''s new powers? And the choice he had to make? AND!!! Morpheus didn''t seem crazy to me, all the interviews said he got crazy! Is the real world *really* the real world, or another matrix? Discuss!!!!

The 6 The One''s was quite a plot twist.

At the end, he definitely seemed to not be in his right mind due to the fact that everything he believed in turned out to be a part of the plan of plan of the entitiy he thought he was working to defeat.

I think that there''s quite a bit of evidence to support the idea that the "real" world (i.e. where Zion is) is just another layer of the matrix. I think Neo''s in a coma because he just figured that out.
Maybe neo is unplugged.

By the way, I felt so scared when trinity almost died...
see here''s the thing. I spread that rumor like crazy at the theater and I would have had the biggest ass beating if trinity actually had died. OMFG.

I would have to agree with the layered matrix response. Otherwise, the thought that these ''intelligent'' machines are basing their entire future on the survival of 7 men and 13 women selected for the next cycle of the matrix is kind of ridiculous. Apparently there are no more cataclysmic disasters or viruses that would wipe out such a small colony of the new Zion in the future.

The other interesting point is that while all the people ''hacking'' into the matrix can bring all sorts of equipment (guns...lots of guns ), they never seem to think of bringing bulletproof vests.

If hackers can create a god mode in Diablo why can''t they in the matrix?

If the "real world" is just another level of the matrix then why are the robots working so hard to kill everyone there? I would think they would only work hard enought to make it seem plausable, since they are using these people for energy they don''t want to kill them.

What were Neo''s two options again? Kill 6 billion people and end the machines, or go back to the matrix and let zion be destroyed, then rebuilt once more?

The whole thing with neo stopping the robots at the end was very intriguing. Is he becoming a machine, simply anothing program? Do the machines exist in a matrix of their own, so to speak, yet control it? Is he becoming aware of this matrix. Only until the next one comes out will we know for sure. The 6 "The One''s" was surely a bomb dropper.

They're trying to kill the people who have been freed, who aren't a source of energy for them. And even if they were, a quarter million people is nothing compared to the (presumably) billions of batteries they already have.

And I get the impression that the reason they keep repeating the cycle of creating the One, allowing Zion to be built, and destroying it is to gradually work the bugs out of the system through an interative process.

As far as why I think that the "real world" is just another matrix:

  • Parts of the master plan of the Architect require that they have some control of the outside world, e.g.:

    • The Oracle told Trinity that she would fall in love with the One. This would require them knowing that the real world Trinity would fall in love with Neo.
    • Same thing with the prophesy about Morpheus finding the One
    • Neo had dreams about Trinity's death that matched future events *exactly*. It was key to the Architect's plan for Neo to know that Trinity's life really was in danger when he made the choice. This wouldn't have been possible without the dreams.
    • In a similar vein, the Architect knew that Trinity would enter the matrix, which means he also knew that the other ship would have been destroyed requiring her to do so.

  • Neo's ability to destroy the machines with a wave of his hand in the "real world". How would this be possible if the outside world isn't another matrix? He's a superhero in real life? I hope not. God gave him the power? Possible, but I doubt it. It's most easily explained by the outside world being yet another level of the matrix.
  • Neo died in the real world in the first movie, and Trinity died in the real world in this movie. And they both came back. The real world being another matrix, which Neo is beginning to learn how to control, would account for this. (Thanks, Mith, for reminding me of this point.)

If this is true, then I think that Neo being able to manipulate the outside world too *isn't* part of the master plan. His discovery that the "real world" is just another illusion will be the first step in breaking the cycle, and will allow him to really free humanity.

Like I said above, this would also explain the coma. He suddenly realizes that the world he thought was real is just another illusion, maybe because at the moment he destroyed the machines, he saw the code. Remember his reaction to finding out the "truth" in the first movie? I can only imagine that the shock to his system the second time around would be much worse.
was I correct about Neos options when he was talking with the architecht? I forgot in my sleep ( slept right after the movie). Dave, I thought the same thing about Neo''s dreams. And the Oracle. Man that movie was cool. Im gonna see it again tonight.
