I was wondering does anybody know how they record the motion of the characters in FFX. I know that they have real actors whose movements are recorded into some keyframes but what equipment is used? is there some out there for hobby programmers? how exactly does it work? What is the keyframe format? Any ideas? -CProgrammer

It''s called "motion capture". There are various ways of doing it, but basically an actor wears "markers". The markers are tracked as the actor moves, and the movement is converted into an animation.

One system involves video cameras and reflective balls attached to the actor. Software converts the locations of markers in the video to 3D locations. The location data is converted to an animation.
