Fixed it.. typical bug too, on my part... Problem was with the /tmp/mcop-feral ... You see, root owned it. So, when feral tried to start kde I got this arts popup dialog and didn''t think too much of it... because I *know* sound does not work...
Heh, go figure.
Cure was a simple chown -R feral:feral /tmp/mcop-feral
Now, why something to do with the sound caused the desktop not to display? ... well actually I''ve a clue there too.
Root and Halt(that new username) both could start up kfm (kde''s filemanager, aka konqurer) with sound preview enabled, while poor feral had to find a work around to turn that off.. which I did and didn''t pay it much thought... because I *know* the sound does not work.. (sounds familiar dosn''t it? heh) .. anyway items on desktop caused desktop to pffffft. Silent like.
