NEAR and FAR pointers

I know what they are. I''m learning the Windows API from an old book (like ten years), so they''re using this specifier in some of the declarations. I haven''t seen them explicit any where else. Are the specifiers obsolete now?

I believe they were left over from the 16 bit days

I thought those were obsolete as soon as protected-mode compilers came out

Yeah, not used anymore. They were used back in the old days (brings back memories of borland turbo c/c++).

Yeah.. pmode more or less == 32-bit mode (aka, once 16-bit died, there IS a 16-bit pmode, but I don''t know anything that actually uses it).
