I have recently received a US patent and PCT on a new mouse that also acts like a joystick. Could I get some feedback from your team? Is this something that game developers would get excited about? This would be a boon to game developers because there would always be a joystick on every desktop. Please follow the following link to view the details. http://www.elegantsol.com Steve

Not to ask awkward questions, but isn''t this just a squat joystick with a mouse-like shell? And didn''t MS release one of those a while ago (touted for RTS games mainly).

Wheres the translational bit? Does the whole thing move across the tabletop like a mouse or is it contrained to the small pseudo-surface within itself?
Not awkward at all! I never saw the Microsoft device, if you have a link I would like to look at it.

First and foremost it IS a mouse that works like an ordinary mouse unless you select the joystick mode by either pressing down or clicking a switch. It also will be a superb scroller because it scrolls 360 degrees.

Like the original IBM PC, it would set a standard that would provide a joystick on every machine to every game developer.

It clearly is a compomise joystick but the best of all worlds mouse. Also remember that this is a design and not yet a product.

Thanks
Steve

Congrats on getting your patent, but I''m afraid I''ll be sticking with my Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar.

And you''re thinking of the Strategic Commander, which Microsoft no longer makes. It wasn''t designed to replace the mouse; It sat on the left side of your keyboard, and had a four-way toggle movement that could be used to scroll the screen. (Remapped to arrow keys, say.) Plus, it had two rows of three buttons, with a few thumb-switches that could act like shift keys, giving you a bazillion different combinations.

It was pretty handy for RTSes, but outside of that, I rarely used it. I guess it market wasn''t large enough for it, as MS canned it about a year ago.

Right you are. I have one.

I did not know what he was referring to because he called it a mouse.

Please reread my edited post above. As I restated, it is a compromise joystick but the best mouse because it is an all in one device that excels at scrolling and is adequate game device.

Looks like it has promis, though I am wondering just how much throw one can get in any one direction.

Still, seems neat (=

Best of Luck, hopefully ya won''t need it.
The intent is to have the scrolling similar to acceleration.
That is the farther you move the faster the action.

Thx
Steve
