Changing default shell in unix

I know that the default shell for a user is stored in /etc/passwd and can be set during the adduser command. Is there a way for a regular user (or at least a sudo''d user) can change his own default shell? Zorx (a Puzzle Bobble clone) Discontinuity (an animation system for POV-Ray)
