I'm new to this board

Hey everyone. I'm everybit sure I will get bashed for what I am going to post because it seems like this kinda stuff would be posted all the time. I just want to know what should I learn to do before attempted to make games. I am completely new to this in a way although I have been learning about it for quite some time. I will probably buy me a book or two this xmas but as for now I will stick with as many online resources I can find. Game design and development is the main purpose of learning how to program to me. Not interested at the time in making much anything else. So all I want to know is what I should know before doing so.
